Perking up from her hunched over place against her desk, vibrant blue eyes sought out the man’s visage. The words caught her off guard completely. When had Genji slipped into the medical bay without her noticing? He may be a skilled ninja, but she was better than this. Perhaps the fact she couldn’t hear him approach was evidence enough of her current state of health. Still, she swallowed hard and decided he deserved a vocal response to his question, no matter how much she loathed the chiding that will surely follow.
“What day is it?” She asks with a dry albeit innocent tone, a light snicker escaping her lips. Helplessly, she shrugs and leans back into her chair, deciding to get comfortable. She wanted to believe she looked presentable, but maybe not to her usual standards. Her blonde hair is in a disheveled up do while her lab coat, black sweater, and slacks are faintly wrinkled from hours in the same posture. The devil was in the details, they say, and that was true for the hard working Angela Ziegler.
“Mmph, I think two days…maybe three if you don’t count a power nap as sleep.” She eventually follows up with the words, knowing the man would want a more credible answer to his question. It had taken thought, so she was more inclined to say it had been closer to three days rather than two, but it didn’t stop her from trying to downplay her situation. She hated worrying others, especially when she was responsible for her situation. After all, improvements to the Valkyrie Suit weren’t going to happen on their own. Even without modifications and calibrations accounted for, there was always more to explore with her nanobiotic technology as well. Sometimes when Angela found herself plotting a new theory, she had to see it through until the end. Such was the case currently, if the hologram display of a disassembled Valkyrie Suit above her desk was anything to go by.
“Ah, but enough about me–did you need anything, Genji? What can I help you with?” Angela perks up from her thoughts and starts to rise from her desk. The fatigue weighs heavy on her body, her motor skills not as refined as they ought to be as she saunters around her desk, forced to lean against his casually for support. Perhaps this was still salvageable; maybe she could deflect his concerns and redirect the conversation somehow. Still, knowing the man–and how well he knows her at this point–she doubted she’d escape the conversation.
The cyborg nimbly stepped towards her desk as he spoke, gaze drifting from the busy workspace to the doctor in question. He didn’t need to assess her current appearance to tell that she had been overworking, which she tend to do. And he couldn’t help but worry. In his hand was a mug filled with a hot beverage --- tea, that is. Caffeine was the last thing she needed right now.
“You think?” Genji raised a brow, watching her intently from behind the visor. “I believe that, in itself, shows how far you have been straining yourself, Doctor... And no, a nap hardly counts.” He stifled a chuckle while setting the mug down on what little free space there was on her desk. So about three days without appropriate amount of sleep? That was a cause for concern...
“--I hope you did not think I wouldn’t see what you are trying to do. Deflecting is my specialty... you know that.” There was a mix of solicitude and tease in his tone. “What I need is for you to get some proper rest, Angela. You need it and you know it.” That he was sure. What he wasn’t certain of, was if she would comply. He hoped she would... for he wouldn’t want to have to pry her away from her desk, for her own sake.
When she stood, Genji instinctively raised his arms-- just in case. She looked like she could fall fast asleep on her feet. As though proving his theory, he felt her leaning against him, and he gingerly held her shoulder. “Your hard work and dedication is admirable, but pointless when you deny yourself a much needed break. Everyone has their limits.” Nobody likes a lecture. And he was so used to being on the receiving end, that this was actually rather hilarious, in a way. “Was it not you who told me that back then... when I overdid it at the training facility?”
