another’s treasure.

it wasn’t rare for soojung to think of her family when she was alone. when she left home for hongdae there was some hints of regret considering the fact that they refused to speak to her since then--not even entertaining her with picking up the phone, and a part of her doubts that they even bother to listen to many voicemails she’s left them. by this time she hardly even bothers to try, rarely gathering up the energy to travel from hongdae and back to her hometown to see if they’ll even open the door for her.
today she remembers how she sold the jewelry box her mother bought for her after graduating middle school for money. honestly a piece of her regrets letting it go, but the sentimental value of the item was nearly nonexistent to her at that point and time. completely void due to the fact that she was, undoubtedly, bitter over the fact that her parents refused to even speak to her if she decided to follow her dreams an actress. the memory of that irritates her slightly, but it brings her back to when her parents would sometimes congratulate her for something mundane like a high score on her exams.
she wonders what happened to that old box; what if no one ever bought it and it’s still displayed somewhere in that tiny antique shop? what if someone else owned it? by now it could be in the trash for all she knows.
her phone rings and breaks her train of thought, reaching out to grab it from the couch and looking confused when she sees an unknown number across the screen. hesitantly she answers, her voice a tad bit quiet, “hello?”
