▼ - childhood headcanon

We know about his dad, and as for the mom, I guess I prefer the version where she died when he was a kid rather than abandoned him. Maybe because, just as I do with Steve, I'd rather Eddie had some love and fond childhood memories.

☼ - appearance headcanon

Kinda overlaps with the one above, and I don't remember who came up with it and whether I read it on tumblr or in a fic, but it stuck with me. Eddie buzzed his hair in middle school because his mom had cancer and lost hers and was very upset about it, and he decided to support her this way. He started growing it to look like hers after she died because it reminds him of her.

♡ - romantic headcanon

I love Eddie as a hopeless romantic. He'd never admit it, but he used to daydream about being swept off his feet by a knight in shining armor, literally, in a fantasy setting. Enter Steve, who figures him out pretty quickly despite Eddie insisting he doesn't need flowers and candlelit dinners and is just happy to be with Steve, because he blushes and his eyes fill with tears every time Steve romances him. Even years into their relationship, Steve would bring him breakfast in bed with scrambled eggs shaped into an uneven heart on his plate, and Eddie would have to fight back tears.

✿ - sex headcanon

Oh, do you really wanna provoke me into a 1000 word essay on my virgin Eddie my beloved agenda. DO YOU REALLY. Because yes, while I love writing slutty Eddie occasionally, in the canon timeline, he's a loser virgin. He quietly thirsts after pretty boys in school corridors but is too awkward to make a move, even if there might be hints that a boy he looks at is queer. So yeah. The boy had zero sex before Steve barged into his life full speed.

My Eddie's sexuality hc keeps going back and forth between gay and bi, I like bi!Eddie but end up writing him as gay 90% of the time just because fucking look at him, how the hell did he not walk around with a small army of bad boy loving girls (from the band or theatre for instance) if he was bi. I can't make sense of it 😂

☾ - sleep headcanon

We all agree on koala!Eddie, right? Also, he tosses and turns a lot if he sleeps alone, but if Steve's arms are around him, he stays still.

☆ - happy headcanon

Imagine 58-y.o. Eddie today when Baldur's Gate 3 comes out. IMAGINE. He takes a week off work and his concerned husband has to physically drag him away from the computer at 3am because "you need to sleep Eddie, you're not twenty anymore." Steve should've done it hours ago, but Eddie just looked so damn happy even with his red-rimmed eyes from playing for 12 hours straight, he didn't have the heart.

♦ - quirks/hobbies headcanon

Since I've already dipped into modern era, see above - Eddie would be an obsessive gamer and maybe even make a decent career streaming because his commentary would be hilarious and he also has a talent stumbling into the most ridiculous game glitches.

this is giving me enemies to lovers. two people in close proximity who have to spend their days together and they hate it. i was originally going to do edancy bc they speak to me always but i’m actually thinking that i might do stali. i rewatched the lost sister while thinking about this so i have all the kali thoughts and feels. and now i’m thinking about a canon divergence fic where kali came back for el to help defeat vecna and they do blah blah blah. and she decides to stay with el and her policeman and ends up getting a job. one of those ultimatum bullshit deals hopper makes. and where does she get a job now that robin’s left for college? at family video.

you’ve got to be shitting me. that was her first thought as the orange dusted man handed her an ugly green vest with a pin placed over the breast. the material was scratchy and not in a good way. the pin read: how can i help? get her out of this podunk town for starts. if it wasn’t for jane, kali would have split months ago. it’s what she was good at, moving on, finding somewhere new to cause mayhem before moving on again. never be stationary. that was one of her rules. kali had a lot of rules for someone who didn’t care for society’s rules. she didn’t, of course, she believed that the people should self-govern and be themselves. which is why she has her own personal rules. 1. don’t get caught. 2. never stay in one place too long. 3. don’t get attached. they were all perfectly sound and logical rules. ones she didn’t make a habit of breaking. she did not get caught, ever, which is great considering she probably would have looked worse in orange. but even as she put on the vest, feeling her insides crawl as she did so, she broke rule number two. she’s been in hawkins for months. pretty much all summer and now it’s fall, with halloween just around the corner, and she was just hired to work at family video. kali couldn’t even remember the last film she’s watched, not a lot of time to go to the cinema as someone constantly on the run. her stomach felt weird. kali didn’t do nerves or anxiety. it was useless to fret over the inevitable and the uncomfortable. she lived in those spaces, purposely and spitefully. this feeling in her gut and chest felt abnormal. she hated it. she hated it more as it worsened when she was introduced to her coworker. the guy she’ll have to spend all of her shifts with as the manager, mr. processed cheese dust works at the arcade next door. her coworker seemed nice. clean cut, in a striped polo and jeans without a rip in sight, and the same ugly vest she had to wear over her torn to shreds outfit. his hair was about as high as hers but painfully plain. no dye, no shaved bits. he was a fucking cookie cutter model citizen. “you have got to be shitting me.” the worst part of it, the bit that twisted her stomach up more, was that steve harrington didn’t like her. it was evident to her from the first moment they met, the protective way he distrusted her and she only made matters worse by getting into his head. since then any run in they had together resulted in bickering and insults. usually about each other’s warring appearances or something equally as shallow and petty. sometimes they’d say something aimed to hurt at the other which left the tension between them thicker and uncomfortable. even though seeing him made her feel different, she tried to revel in just how uncomfortable she made steve harrington. maybe she just liked watching him squirm. that crinkle in between his eyebrows. the way his lower lip juts just slightly when he’s annoyed. maybe she just liked looking at him. wait. no. that can’t be it.

so back in the day i was in the spn/tvd/tw vacuum and i was rping on tumblr so i’m very partial to my ships from then. so scott mccall/caroline forbes comes to mind first 🥰 they were one of my favorites to write. i don’t think i have a crossover ship for anyone in stranger things but i think that personally i deserve steve harrington and jamie tartt bicon vs bicon.

🔥fandom take/fanon

unpopular opinion for me is usually just i don’t care for widely accepted fanon takes. i’m not saying that canon is good, canon is all bc i don’t even like canon a lot and i have my own headcanons and fanon takes im sure won’t be appreciated by others. but once you start seeing a take or headcanon and it’s suddenly in every fic, it becomes annoying. like idc about getting into it over sexuality and gender identity for characters because that’s all headcanon and it’s usually not as widely accepted (there is always discourse over this and y’all are soooo tiring about it). those headcanons are simply personal so you shouldn’t accept it as the whole fandom take! same goes for ships like ok you only ship these characters together and only them! that’s fine! that’s amazing good for you!!! i’m going to ship everything possible abt the characters i like and that’s that. no point in getting into shitty arguments about something soooo fucking meaningless as shipping fictional characters.

honestly if i had to say one unpopular opinion it’s that i wish fandom appreciated multishipping again. discourse and ship wars are So Tired. they’ve been tired for the 10+ years i’ve been in tumblr fandoms.

oh and another thing that i see sometimes with fanon takes that’s outside of discourse or shipping or whatever is usually something that Literally Did Not Fucking Happen in canon and it’s literally the fanon hive mind making shit up and it’s like i’m begging you: rewatch the source material. watch it, study it. i miss old fandom where we did meta analysis on characters and story arcs and episodes. bring back media literacy and just overall thinking! (old man yells at cloud! time)

AND ANOTHER THING if you like something from fanon, do your research a little bit. mostly thinking about writing characters with disabilities, writing characters in a certain music subgenre and community, different kinks or even sex written during a different period of time (just thinking about no condom fics set in the 1980s like there wasn’t an aids epidemic), writing a character of a different race, religion, socioeconomic background as you. idk if this is just from roleplaying for 10 years or what but even doing basic research on how to write these topics could save you from writing potentially harmful things (racist remarks, microaggressions, ableism, etc). i know it’s fanfic and it’s meant to be fun and im not at all saying DONT do this or don’t have fun, im saying be cautious and educate yourself. there is literally nothing wrong with learning something! we all do as writers.
