Day 13 of my 2019 vacation: Ang Kwento Nating Dalawa
I watched this indie movie which premiered in 2015. I don’t remember why it became a really great hit to some college students when I was in my undergraduate studies, but (sorry) I guess I’m glad I did not watch it before. I admit that I am not a film enthusiast, critic or whatever, it wasn’t just worth the money and time to watch.
The story is about a couple, Isa and Sam. There were only a few places featured in the movie: the LRT station (and the footbridge), the school (DLSU), a bar (Route 196), cabs, Isa’s room and Sam’s apartment. The only problem is that Isa is in a current relationship with someone named “Frank” (who did not appear in the movie) and Sam is left with many questions including whether or not he should still continue his secret relationship with Isa. The minor problem was Isa is headed to LA after graduating and Sam was invited to a film fellowship in Berlin.
Perhaps it was a simple story, and I would have appreciated if the film focused on the build-up for the “ending.” But it just remained plain and simple, no roots, no depth. Still, it was just nice sighing and problematizing the characters’ dilemma during the whole film. Would you stay with the one you love or travel and follow your dreams?
PS (spoiler?): Did I mention about their roles in the school? No, I’d rather not. 🤷🏻♀️
