(TW/CW : light choking/ hand around neck)
Thinking about how around Halloween, the brothers get a bit more… mischievous than usual, playing pranks on each other and on you. Even Lucifer got a few laughs at the others.
Their pranks on you are more mild, humans are so fragile after all. Mostly putting a fake spider or snake in your room (seriously, humans are scared of that? How cute), quietly sneaking up on you as you’re working to whisper “boo” in your ear and laugh as your soul damn near left your body.
Even when Mammon or Satan changed to their demon forms to scare you, yeah, you jumped, but you were always able to laugh afterwards. They’re demons, sure, but they’re your demons; they’ve never hurt you, and you know they won’t.
One day you’re walking up some stairs, having been asked to call Belphie down to dinner. According to Beel, Belphie was up in the attic napping, so that’s where you went to look.
“Belphie! Dinner’s ready.” You called out just before you reached the top of the stairs, hoping maybe he was awake and would hear you. But if the silence was anything to go by, he was asleep.
Looking through the door’s gaps… it was dark, the only light being from the lit candles either side of the door.
“Hey, Belphie? You in here?” You opened the door and stepped inside. Yet it was silent. No one seemed to be in the room.
Giving up, you turned to leave, stopping when you saw Belphie in front of the door.
Startled, you shook your head with a smile, “oh! There you are, I was looking for you,” craning your neck back, you tried to look at his face, though the lack of light in the room hid his face in shadow, and the candles outside did little to help. When he said nothing, your head tilted in confusion, stepping back to get a better look at him.
And he took a step forward.
The air seemed to get colder, suddenly aware of the sound of your breathing. You never realised until now but… Belphegor was very tall. Maybe it was the fact he was usually sitting or laying down, or maybe that he often slouched like Levi, but you never got a true sense for how tall he was until now.
You tried to back away, get some distance between you, but he stepped forwards again. Your voice trembled, “B-Belphegor?”
Your eyes glanced behind you as the back of your knees hit the edge of the bed; when you looked up again, he was a lot closer.
Magenta eyes glowed in the dark, and they were silently staring down at you, unblinking, daring you to do something. You could hear your heart in your ears. Fingers twitching to move, to run. Body fighting to quieten your breaths. You stared back, praying he backed down.
Your head hit the bed, and before you could speak or even scream, a clawed hand wrapped around your throat. Shadows hid its face, but the eyes betrayed its smile. The low, constant pressure on your neck made you hold your breath.
Were you foolish for letting Belphegor free?
As a delighted laugh reached your ears, you could only think, “I should have listened to Lucifer’s warning…”
“HA HA HA HA ha, oh my Diavolo! You should see your face right now!” You still stared at the pitch black ceiling.
“Aw, come on, did I really scare you that much?” Your body felt heavy, numb, foreign.
“Hey-?” You jumped back when something touched your hand.
Eyes more adjusted to the dark now, you could make out Belphegor’s expression, confusion and concern etched onto it. You thought he might’ve said your name, but your ears felt like they were underwater. Nausea tried to keep you down, but your eyes saw the clear path to the door and you bolted, pushing past Belphegor.
He stared at the door when you ran, wondering if he went too far.
