Never Ending Nightmare (The Bride and The Corinthian)
It was always the same scene. The church. The wedding rehearsal. The slaughter. And for some odd reason her recurring nightmare wasn't in color. The monochromatic story would unfold in front of her time and again. She was there. Watching. Always watching in torment and anguish. Never could she actually do anything about it. Countless times she had tried. How long would she be here reliving this same damned nightmare? It had already felt like an eternity. She watched. Feeling like nothing but a shadow. A ghost. A whisper unheard. Drifting closer to the bright-faced bride, she hardly recognized herself reflected there, wearing a wedding dress and full of hope. What was it like to feel happy? Ripping her gaze from the bride's smiling face, she lowered her eyes to the round bulging belly encased within the white lacy fabric. Her hand found her own flat stomach and a sob retched out of her. Of course she was no longer pregnant. How could she be? She was dead and this was hell. It had to be. To relive the same nightmare over and over again. To spend an eternity tortured. It's what she always thought hell would be like. To see your happiness getting taken from you and to relive your own worst horrors. Unable to change it. It was wearing her down. She was a glimmer of who she once was. She couldn't even recall her own name any longer.
The happy scene unfolding before her only too quickly changed. She knew this part so well. Was expecting it. Dreading it. It was inevitable. Even when she closed her eyes, she would still see it. Hear it. Feel it. The Deadly Viper Assassination Squad reunited in the same building. The Vipers' retribution for one of their own leaving them and for Bill's heartbreak. The bloody slaughter. All of her only friends and her fiance. Dead. Laying in pools of blood and bullets. Her own broken form on the wooden floor. A pretty red soaked lacy dress. Puffy swollen face covered in open wounds and blood. Boots thumping down the aisle. Bill.
The gunshot rang through the sanctuary. Turning her head, she shut her eyes as she grimaced. Feeling the shot rip through her head. Her heart. Instinctively plunging her hand into blond hair to feel the side of her head. It was still intact. She took a shuddering breath and opened her eyes to see someone sitting in one of the pews looking on at her. Someone she had never noticed before. Someone in color. "Who are you?" Her voice came out hoarse. As if she hadn't used it in years.
