Latvia has not had the most ideal journey at the Eurovision. They won the song contest on their third attempt. But unlike their neighbours, Estonia, Lithuania and Russia, they have not appeared in the finals nearly as much. Instead, they have had the misfortune of coming last in the semi finals on four occasions and on a few others they are near the bottom. 

When no one was expecting it, Latvia sprung a massive surprise in a smallish package. Animata is a lyrical and musical magician. She provided a song that expresses such a heavy weight but the song sails like a bird riding the waves of the wind. Animata has a voice to knock down walls and all authorities to attention. The music shows texture to provide a modern soundtrack to her voice and the words of the song. A masterclass of music. Latvia should keep hiring her to write songs until they win again.
