Mulan: I never want to see another naked man again.
Me: Except Shang!
Crickey dealt with so much during those movies 😂
Listen
LISTEN
DISNEY SAID
To be a man, you must be as swift as the coursing river, with all the force of the great typhoon, with all the strength as the raging fire, mysterious as the dark side of the moon.
THEREFORE
IF YOU MEET ALL THAT, AND ONLY THAT
CONGRATULATIONS, YOU’RE A MAN
IF YOU DON’T, I’M SORRY
BUT NO GENDER FOR YOU
Today I...
Watched Mulan. Dishonour on your cow.
This is completely random but Mulan is objectively the best Disney “Princess” (she’s not actually royalty but whatever) because she's simultaneously empowering for girls, trans boys, and Asians all at the same time.
my students keep giving me drawings of mulan so i guess this is my legacy
The Mulan Movie is gonna flop but it’s gonna flop even harder with it’s racist promotion isn’t it.
What the fuck with cutting a kiss scene and make it sounds like “omg Chinese people can’t accept a kiss!” like who are these Chinese people they’re talking about. Or acting like China doesn’t have a sophisticated movie industry that “we have to search every *small village* to find an actress” only for them to end up casting one of the most popular actresses in China??? Or that they need a white director to “respect Disney culture” but they totally respect Chinese culture by giving us some of the most obvious historical inaccuracies even in their fucking first trailer.
Also congratulations on making Mulan the most generic and boring action movies out there. No one except Hollywood buy that “strong female character” bs or their guilt market of “if you don’t support our movie you are anti-feminism” because China already makes tons of Mulan adaptations with characters of complexities. And people from other markets are complaining how Disney cut out the interesting parts of the animated version.
Like, it’s not like Chinese people can’t enjoy the animated Mulan because they tell a genuine story but with this live action one I feel they are only trying to create a bland, marketable version with the stamp of "girl power."
