End result

After a long while working on this animatic, I can finally present you the final result of my work

It might seem not that complicated, however the most challenging part was to get the timings to the song right. Especially with wings, since the character had to fly into the portal to travel to next location and the next segment. Although I managed to for it, but since one clip with wings was sped up that much you can barely even see them, or at least distinguish which out of 3 types of wings they are

Another good thing which I like is the beginning and the end matching sounds. In animation it looks like the character spend long time in a dream or many dreams. Maybe years and had fun traveling, however in real world it was just one station on the subway. I think it is a great depiction how time in dreams work. You might dream a story in like couple of minutes bit the story tells you about the main character whole life. I know that this actually happens, I had a dream like that one day

The animatic itself I am very proud of. It was in my mind for longest time ever and I am really glad that I managed to make this animation a reality. If it is possible and if I don’t make any more good animatics that i really like, I will take this animatic for future development and making it into a full animation

As always, half done animatic which I try to analyze

For now I only have 1/3 of the dream sequence. I like how the wings look, but probably it would be better to ad some motion, as if the character flies around the screen and not only in one place because it is boring.

Also I finally understand what the tutor meant by not using only music. I decided to add some sounds of subway as well as turned the music down before the main character was seated in the train. That made an interesting start for animation. I agree with the tutor, that this change made the animatic better for looking at it

Some sequences that are waiting to be made are: traveling through universes and changing appearances. For universes I probably will do portals, since it is a very logical option. However, it might not be long enough to make character get in and out of portal in a split second of a bit. I will have to think about it a bit more. As for hanging appearances, I collected a list of characters that frequent my dreams the most so this is what is going to be added

As I started working on this animation I felt a bit bolder than before, even adding background in the beginning.

It was a bit challenging but I think it ads a lot of character at least to the beginning of the animation. Since after that goes a dream world this one should probably be colored into darker colors, if I choose to proceed with this as my final animation. Create like a distinction. Where on one hand we have boring reality in mostly grey and sad colors, and on the other hand v]we have colorful dreamy land with music where you can do anything you want to.

As well as drawing background in the beginning, the wings that I decided to actually draw would prove to be a challenge in the future, however for now it is completely okay, since it is a quick frame where character is flying. You can’t even see the wings in detail when the character passes by. Only sad thing is that I couldn’t manage the perspective to make the character fly at the screen as I wanted to

The whole animation is going great and I am very proud of myself for continuing this project

Inspiration, ideas and music

For this animatic I decided to choose one of my old projects and give it a new life. The theme that I pick is Places of mind. I want to create an animatic based on the dreams. This time, I didn’t look for any animations for inspiration, more as an example of what I want to include. My idea is based on my 157 recorded dreams. I thought of making an animatic where I can showcase the most popular thing that happens in my dreams, for example location, situation, powers and many other things that I have to choose after analyzing my dreams

The first thing that comes to mind after thinking about dreams, is flying. It is the most common thing that there is and I want to use this animation as inspiration to types of wings that I can draw. Since everything varies from dream to dream any type of these wings is possible, the only problem is animating them.

As well as in the dreams I have wings, I also can become someone else. I know that this animation meme is used for something else. However, I thought that I can use the character display and a bit of movement when they appear as something that I can do when I showcase my characters

I would have used another animation for locations, however I couldn’t find it no matter where I looked. Basically that video was made by a big group of people. Each of them animated one part of the video. Basically it was about the person walking through universes, any, from movies to games to 2D animation. Just as in dreams you can travel anywhere, that animation would have shown people walking through doors to enter new universe

As well as in first post we talk about inspiration, we also talk about music choice. For this animation I decided to choose this one since the beat drop at some point of video is a good starting point to do stuff with dreams. Beat drop can be like the person falling asleep, and then travels to dream land

Hello, I am an MA animation student and this is my first post on this blog.

In its entirety this page will be focused on my work as animator in University of Hertfordshire and showing my work and assignments that I will receive during this year of studies.

This blog is a combination of animation studies and context studies so everything will be divided with tags, so if you need to search anything regarding specific studies you can find the tag bellow this post.
