Animatic - Dark and Light

Final version

Finally the animatic is done and looks good. I am still a bit dissatisfied with how some scenes turned out, but sadly right now I cannot fix them due to my skill not being high enough. Also I I talk about the scenes, one definitely takes the first place out of all of them.

It is this scene where other Ranboo takes off his mask and the viewer can see the moving vires from his mouth

i put a lot of effort to lip sync the words to character, as well as moved the vires from the mask to his mouth, so they moved when he talked. It would have taked longer but because the program allowed that type of movement just by stretching the image it was very helpful.

Although I am a bit disappointed when on the Crit I was told to not make this animatic just with the use of music. To be clear I usually first think of animation and then get the necessary song, and not the other way around. Also, I don’t understand that comment. If I am not to use music then what should I do if then animatic would be silent.

Current progress + interesting details

After a week I only managed to make half of the animatic. Turns out I heavily overestimated myself and my ability to do that. I cannot draw som angles from my initial ideas, however, everything still manages to look decent.

Currently I am still exploring the ways I can animate in the program Procreate Dreams, since I previously worked in it and know some tricks.

I figured out that to help myself animate I can use the feature to move details or image themselves. Although sadly Procreate dreams doesn’t yet have a good drawing feature and I still draw in procreate, I very much like how everything turns out.

This is what I have at this moment of time

Even though in some places it looks a bit rough and in others too detailed, I think I managed to tell a good story. It might be a bit hard to understand what I am making still, but I can assure you that it will all be clearer near the end. The best part of the animatic still not here so I have to continue till I am satisfied

Inspiration and Idea

After long consideration and looking through a lot of animation ideas, my choice was to make another idea for Dark and Light”. The idea is: good character facing his evil self and trying to escape. The reason why I chose this theme is because with the sound that I have chosen I have remembered one interesting stream story of creator who I like. I can make animation for that fandom as well as make the project for university. I decided to look through some of the animations about that fandom to maybe pick out something that will help me

This was the first animatic that came to my mind when I thought about the fandom. However, since we are bound to only use NCS sounds I cannot use the music from this animatic which is very saddening. Also this was the animatic that inspired my idea in the first place

I like this animatic and think the lack of colors is very great. Yes everything is mostly black and white, but the usage of red to show the main character or something important certanly is a good choice that i might take to my animatic

This animatic was very interesting in its storytelling. At first you believe that the character shown is a good one, looking for someone, but then you understand that he is a bad guy. I think this is a very interesting turn of events which I might implement myself in my work

As well as all the inspiration animatics I think I should add the playlist with those series I am talking about. They are very entertaining but they were better when they were streamed on Twitch since viewers got to participate in decisions of main character by the name Ranboo.

In general my idea right now is to create an animatic to show how Ranboo(the main character) faces the bad guy and tries to escape the facility. However the bad guy who was behind the mask all this time turns out to be Ranboo himself but from alternative ending where he chose the wrong decision. I probably could explain all the lore of this series, but that would be too long and unnecessary for this task.

Since it is the first animatic that I will make it probably will be extremely complicated, since I have never made any animatics before. Maybe only one

Animatic 1 - Dark and Light

First test + music

The first theme that I decided to look at for my first animatic is Dark and Light “Mostly cool movement and light playshowing character who is bad hiding under a mask of being good”

I picked out music that seems to be suitable for this theme. The beats in it are very dynamic and there are come parts that can be separated into small sections for more interesting camera movement and light play. The part that I picked for my animation is 0:43- 1:17

After the lesson I made the first test animation, trying to base it on a song.

There is no sound added to it yet and animatic itself looks a bit strange with combination of stickman and human. That just was to get the understanding of what will go how and where.

All in all I like the idea of person running but the exit vanishing right before he can reach it, however I want to say that perspective and dynamic poses are not my strongest so I will have to try harder to make it look decent.

Music will be added later and I will probably fully rework the animation itself since this one was created in program only for drawing(Procreate) and there it is very hard to work with frames and their length because one frame is one layer on canvas and there is no control of its length either than copying and posting the same layer the amount of times that you want this frame to last or just make all frames the same length. But I think for first test to see how to work with animation it is okay.

Hello, I am an MA animation student and this is my first post on this blog.

In its entirety this page will be focused on my work as animator in University of Hertfordshire and showing my work and assignments that I will receive during this year of studies.

This blog is a combination of animation studies and context studies so everything will be divided with tags, so if you need to search anything regarding specific studies you can find the tag bellow this post.
