A scene where we realize how hard it is to believe that these two characters are just friends.
Long before Walt Disney, Looney Tunes, The Flintstones, The Simpsons and Pixar, American animation was born and bred in New York City. In fact, many of the earliest and most significant innovations and inventions can be traced directly back to Brooklyn! Join us for an inspiring discussion as cartoon collector/historian Tommy Stathes looks back at our roots and shares selected clips in his archive from Winsor McCay; Bray Productions; and the latter’s pioneering animators Paul Terry, Max Fleischer, and Walter Lantz. Aaron Augenblick from Augenblick Studios will discuss how patented inventions from the Golden Age such as Fleischer’s rotoscope combined with local spirits help inform and embellish his “hand-made in Brooklyn” productions. The panel is moderated by archivist David Kay from The Winthrop Group.
