How long does it take for you to complete an animation project?

Depends on the size! If we're talking like an animated doodle (smth like these)

Probably 30 minutes?? Anything with clean line art takes me much longer (3-5 hours if I don't run into any issues like spending 30 mins tryna draw eyes)

And ofc the complexity of the thing im animating and the length is a huge part and can easily double or triple the time, like

If I were to clean up and really animate this I'd estimate at least 10 hours work just to get line work done. Colouring time also definitely varies depending on the subject but SMTH like this would take maybe a couple hours to colour

Then compositing and final effects is pretty quick to do in toonboom, 10-20 mins if it's just one subject like

These ones and then if it has multiple subjects like this Oneshot dialogue one it can take longer to do it for each subject ^^

This also varies a lot with fps!! I usually work in 12 or 8 fps but the Oneshot ones were done in 6 which made them faster. Hope this answered your question and I'm happy to elaborate on anything if you need it ^^

Would any of you recommend using adobe premiere for animatics/animation. Like drawing stuff in other programs then uploading the frames to premiere Just does anyone have any experience or recommendations for this?

Ok so I’m trying to kinda find a better editing software than standard iMovie from like eight years ago so that I can try to do more with animation. Like I want to be able to take pictures I drew in other programs and edit them together better than I movie to create more/better? animations with more freedom on movement and speed. Does anyone know if after effects does this or if there’s another(preferably free) program that does this. Or am I just crazy

Hai. A question. What is pegging in an animation context?

Hi! A good question! So in traditional animation, aka hand drawn on paper, you have to have away of keeping your animation paper from slipping around on you while you’re working to ensure that everything is lining up correctly. We do this using a peg bar/peg strip;

You can see this on the pretty iconic round animation light tables, like those used at Disney. There will usually be peg strips along the top and bottom, as sometimes animators like to flip up rather than down.

My high brow “pegging” joke comes from when you sometimes have to actually add the peg holes onto paper so that they can be used on the peg bar by animators. For example, a project I was on had a lot of freelance animators doing their work digitally for the rough animation, but then it needed to be printed out to be cleaned up traditionally on paper. So all those frames of animation had to be printed out and then a strip of paper that has the correctly sized/spaced peg holes is attached to that printed animation frame.
