Peg bar is an essential tool in the 2d hand drawn animation production. It holds your frames and align them for the animator to trace the drawings, to view his progress or test the character movement by flipping the frames using the peg bar as the registration device. The peg bar could come in 3 peg or 2 peg, you will also consider the availability of the puncher as in cost too. The 3 peg bar, also called ACME bar, will provide better registration for you frames but the puncher is very expensive (usually price goes not less than $500) comparing it to an office puncher. The 2 peg bar has a good registration ( actually, I haven't found any registration issues with my 2 peg bar yet ), the puncher can be found almost in any office supply store with a cheaper price tag.
Here is how to do a 2 peg bar yourself, get these ready:
Adjustable 2 hole puncher.
Cylinder eraser shape from HB pencil.
Set the puncher pegs/ holes as further apart from each other (make sure to place them properly as the way you want because these location holes will remain in place to align your frames/ papers).
Punch a plain B4 size paper, cut the paper that has the punched holes in a rectangular shape as the flat 30cm steel ruler.
Tape the punched holes rectangular paper on the ruler .
Take the pencil and remove the eraser from the top. Try to pull it out or use the scissor but remember to not damage the eraser shape.
Divide and cut the eraser equally into two pieces ( if it happens to be a bit different in sizes of both of them ,then fix it by rubbing the longer half on the table or trim it using the scissors , but make sure it’s not more than a 1cm to carry as much as 8-6 papers so when you remove the papers/frames it will be much easier and faster).
Use the super glue to stick the two pieces of the eraser to the holes on the paper that is taped on the ruler and then let it dry.
This is optional and not a must. Tape the whole ruler avoiding the pegs/erasers so to protect your light box from scratching the glass, slide easily on the surface and its more comfortable for the hands (the edges will be covered to protect your fingers).
Here is the original link tutorial for the 2 peg bar except that I used pencil eraser as peg bars instead of a ball pen refill: http://www.telugucartoon.com/tutorials/2D-Animation-PegBar.php
