My truck progress for today! [whole truck view up the top + close-ups of the handle, bumpers, and lights & radiator]
I managed to push through and finish these last few details! Well, there’s a few more things I could add, but if I stopped here and moved on to UV mapping, I’d be pretty okay with that!
Everything was pretty straight-forward for these bits. I learned how to extrude along curve to make the bumpers + handle, which took a little bit of fiddling, but nothing I couldn’t handle!
I am going to specifically mention the radiator, however, because, oh man, I had so so much trouble with the radiator! For some reason, creating half the edge-loops for it just didn’t work for some reason. At first I thought all my problems came from the fact that I didn’t extrude the faces properly the first time around, so I deleted it and tried again. However, even after testing that the extrusion worked, when I tried to use the multi-cut tool to manually make the edge loops (because for some reason the bevelling wasn’t working?), it would only cut some of the mesh. I ended up just leaving it alone since even after working on it for an hour, nothing was working. Therefore the edges after smoothing aren’t as ‘crisp’ as everything else (which is also why you can’t see much in the ‘whole truck’ picture).
I’m going to start making the UV maps for everything from here on out. I’m ‘technically’ behind schedule with making everything -- this mesh was meant to be done two weeks ago -- so I can only hope the Unreal Engine part of the workflow won’t take too long, and I can quickly whip up some UV maps for this truck.
