77/365 - (I’m about to get sappy and poetic on all of you, fair warning!) And just like that, it’s over. It’s really something, to think that just an hour ago this whole room was a veritable FOREST of art. So much love and hard work and passion and tears and stress and joy, so many months of preparation building up to this, all poured into three tiny days, only to vanish again in the blink of an eye. So many people from so many different backgrounds brought together in once space, for better or worse, by a common interest. The space we Artist Alley artists inhabit is so transient, so liminal. And yet, next weekend somewhere, in some different city, that forest of art will spring up from the cement of another convention center and it will happen all over again. The life of an artist can be hard. It can be enough to break a person down. But there’s also real magic that happens over these weekends, and as hard as it is, as grueling and soul crushing as it can be sometimes, I feel so blessed to be in the presence of that. The lows can be devastating at times, but he highs are soaring, magical experiences. The fact that I’m just one studio, just one person, doesn’t matter. Because I get to be a tree in that forest. And I wouldn’t trade it for the world. So, thanks Anime Boston. And all the other cons out there. You make magic.
