Oh My Goddess!
Animego 1994
Black Jack (OVA)
No this isn’t a gambling anime, this is an adaptation of a series from the legend himself, the late great Osamu Tezuka! (And if that name means nothing to you, then you should have taken that left turn at Albuquerque!)
Moving along, Black Jack is the original unlicensed doctor, who is the best man for any treatment archetype. Having lost all faith in the Japanese medical system, he became a legend because of his never quitting attitude, determined to save any life he is everything Tezuka-sensei (who was an actual physician at one point) wanted to be as a doctor.
AnimEgo is releasing a blu ray collection of the original ova (Original Video Animation, don’t as me again!) and from what trailer shows in HD I can’t wait to rewatch it!

AnimeGO 2023 Report!
I had the opportunity to go to AnimeGO this year! It was a Japanese Pop Culture Festival that had so many things there! There was an arcade there, kimono dressing, yummy food and so much more!
I went with my good friend Pie (@piedivide), which you’ll see him appear throughout this report! Thank you for the fun time, Pie!!! ヽ(>∀<☆)ノ
The report is below the cut!
AnimeGO Festival 29/10/23 Report
This time I'll be recounting my time at a Japanese culture festival I went to called AnimeGO! It wasn't like...a full-blown convention technically (as much as it actually did feel like a convention lol) but it was such a packed day with so much to do!
I went there with my very good friend Miku (@remimibanana), who you'll see in some images I've scattered throughout the post!
Before we actually went to the festival we took a short detour to investigate a Cardcaptor Sakura collab at Uniqlo...or, well, it was supposed to be there, but there wasn't a single collab item in sight. Just a sign that said there was supposed to be one, but alas, we found nothing ;;
We went and quickly checked out a new-ish bookstore that had opened nearby, where Miku bought herself some manga, and then we were off for the festival! All we had to do was find the entrance.
This turned out to be a slight ordeal. We kinda went in the general direction we knew it was being held, but we didn't know exactly where to go. Eventually though, as we were turning down what we thought was the wrong path, we spotted a cosplayer in the distance and knew that THAT was the right way!
Anyway, in the end we did eventually make it to the entrance. Got our wristbands (after Miku accidentally broke mine and i had to get another one which was funny lol–) and we were ready to go!
(forgive me if i get the order of events mixed up slightly–it was definitely a very scrambled and packed day of events aha but i'll try my best!)
After we spent some time wandering around gaining our bearings, we headed towards the arcade area. The main focus there seemed to be rhythm games and the sort, there were so many! Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA, Taiko no Tatsujin, Sound Voltex, Muse Dash, Beat Saber, Project Sekai, probably others I'm forgetting, I was excited to try them out as I hadn't really played any of them before! Miku on the other hand was probably even more excited because she loves rhythm games, vocaloid music, all that sort of thing!
We took turns playing some of them, and it was a lot of fun! We even took videos of each other playing so we can look back in the future lol. After that, we moved on to the next area.
As we went along, we checked out some of the stands on display. So many merch and artist stands! We spotted one that was selling a lot of Japanese retro games, but some more recent ones as well, and one that caught my eye was Ocarina of Time 3D for the 3DS, for only $40, and I decided to get it immediately. It was one of the games I lost many years ago, and so I knew I had to seize this opportunity. So now I have been reunited with this game once more, and I will be playing it again at some point for sure!
We then found our way to the area where they were selling a whole bunch of Japanese food! But as enticing as it all sounded, we would have to come back later, as we had to be somewhere in about 30 minutes.
We quickly went to find this elusive "manga corner" they had shown on the map within that 30 minutes (mostly so Miku could show off her immaculate reading speeds to me in person–it's pretty impressive lol) but alas we could not find it anywhere, despite being where the map lead us to...so instead we just hung around for a little while chatting before heading to our next destination at our appointed time.
And our next destination was...a kimono dressing station!! We had booked tickets in advance to be dressed in kimonos/yukatas, and it was TIME. We were both very excited for this. There would be many photos.
I picked out this cool dark blue one, pretty simplistic but I liked it! (the selection for guys wasn't very big, they told me that they only get like 2-3 guys doing it every year lol). I think it paired pretty well with the gold sash though! Something about colour contrast, I think I looked pretty good in it!
(my hair is NOT that yellow irl, my camera made the colours look super weird for some reason i swear lol)
Miku chose this vibrant blue floral kimono, with a pink sash to go along with it. She also got a flower hairclip (eventually, some others kept falling off before finding one that actually stayed in her hair haha) and it just looked amazing when it all came together!!
We took lots of photos together too, it was just really awesome ^^
After all that, it was time for food! We beelined straight for the desserts (because why wouldn't you) and we got one cheesecake slice, and three daifuku of varying flavours each! Personally I thought the cheesecake was amazing, and the daifuku were good too, but a bit too sweet for me.
(i also don't really like matcha, which is what flavour the green one was. i tend to liken it to what one might think a tree would taste like, which Miku didn't seem to understand so i just looked crazy trying to justify myself lol)
I'm not sure where else to sneak this comment in so here will do lol, but there was this one person who had this amazing cosplay of Dottore from Genshin who kept appearing and disappearing all over the festival while we were there randomly. Just thought I should mention that. Seemed kinda in-character. Spooky. Cool, but spooky.
Next! We went back to the arcades. By this time, there was this free gacha event happening, where if you played two rounds of Taiko no Tatsujin or two rounds of Sound Voltex, you earned a gacha ticket worth two pulls, which you could then line up to spend on a spinning dispenser that would dispense coloured marbles depicting certain rarities of miscellaneous merch you could get. So of course we had to give our luck a try.
We could only really line up for Taiko no Tatsujin because the line was pretty big (it was a free gacha event after all, so pretty popular lol) and we ended up waiting around half an hour I'd say? But we just chatted the whole time, and watched in awe as this one guy in particular was just, completely SLAYING at Taiko no Tatsujin (Hatsune Miku no Gekishou on the hardest difficulty to be exact because of course lol).
When we got to play, one of the songs we chose was Calamari Inkantation from Splatoon! We were surprised to even see it there, playable, but it was a lot of fun. Our hands kinda hurt after playing it though, perhaps we got too into it lol...
When it was my turn for the gacha, I ended up rolling and getting to choose two items, so I got the Smash Bros. Marth amiibo and the P5 Yusuke Kitagawa clear file. Miku only got to choose one item, and she went with the P5 Haru Okumura clear file.
The next thing we went and did was go to the Maid Café! It was the first time either of us had been to one, so it was definitely a really unique experience. I got a Pumpkin Mini Loaf, and Miku got a Matcha Custard Puff. They both looked really aesthetically pleasing, and tasted just as nice!
We both really liked the pumpkin loaf and the matcha puff! Even me, despite my aforementioned disdain of matcha...however I think we chalked that up to the maid blessing they got us to follow them along with as they brought out our food. Cool to say that that's something we've done now haha.
After this, we went to fulfil our convention/event/festival tradition of buying each other exactly one print that we think the other person would like. So we went to the artist alley, and went our separate ways to choose a print for each other. In the end I chose a really pretty HSR Kafka print for Miku, since I knew she already had a Silver Wolf print, so it would be perfect!
When we exchanged them with each other, I was glad to see that she was happy with what I picked out for her! And the one she picked out for me was this amazing Kazuha print which I love a lot, it looks just so incredible. It was actually Kazuha's birthday on the day we went, so it was kind of perfect! He is also one of my favourite Genshin characters so I was extremely thankful to her for getting it for me, she knows me well haha ^^
(i will add a photo of the Kazuha print here soon lol)
We wanted to quickly see if we could go and get some more food (namely takoyaki, we've been meaning to get that specifically for ages) but unfortunately they were closing up as we got there, so we had to pass once again, frustratingly. Maybe another day...
After this, it was almost time to go. But not before playing a little bit more at the arcade! The lines were starting to dwindle so now was our chance to go wild and play as much as we could. Miku played a handful more rounds of Project DIVA, I played a couple more, and we went and played Muse Dash too, which took a sec to get the hang of but we got there! That was pretty fun too.
But after that, we were kindly informed that the festival was coming to an end, and that we should make our way towards the exits. Our day of fun was over.
As we left and made our way towards the station, it definitely did feel like a bit of an abrupt ending. We had done pretty much everything the festival had to offer, and it was already one of the most fun days ever. Once we got to the station, the train wasn't here yet, so I suggested that we go back outside to go for a walk while we wait. And so we did!
There was still plenty of daylight left, so we could walk around as much as we wanted, really. And as we made it about halfway across a bridge, still chatting away, Miku spotted something in the distance.
For context: the festival we went to was a smaller part of a larger Asia culture festival that's been on for about two weeks now I believe. And we walked past the main festival at the start of the day in search of where we were supposed to be going. It looked cool from the outside, but we would definitely have to pay to get in, so we passed it up at the time.
So anyway, the thing Miku spotted was a comically gigantic sign that literally said 'Free Entry' right above the main gateway of the larger festival.
And so in the spirit of our now seemingly regular nature of spontaneously deciding to do things (and also in our sheer hesitance to let the day end), we eagerly made our way over to the main festival to check it out!
And so continued our adventure.
It was wayyy more crowded in this area. And it was outdoors as well, so it definitely felt more lively. But along the back wall, we noticed there were heaps and heaps of food stands.
This was our chance to finally try takoyaki.
And sure enough, we found it! They told us the wait would be around about half an hour, so we ordered and then we continued to wander around a bit for about 15 minutes. But once we circled back, a person on the front stage announced that a an idol dance group was about to come out to perform some J-Pop songs, which was a pleasant surprise!
The very first song they performed, Miku actually recognised it!! It was a song called Saijoukyuu Paradox (最上級ぱらどっくす), which was a PriPara OP (I didn't know it myself but it was just as amazing). It was very very fun to watch her immediately recognise it and freak out haha.
We got our takoyaki, eventually found somewhere to sit, and watched through their entire setlist which was amazing! And the takoyaki was so good as well, we both really liked it!
For one of the songs, one of the performers even started belting out a proper death metal scream, it was just incredible. Kinda caught us off guard to be honest! Such skill.
Once they had gotten through their setlist, it was announced that they would be selling penlights and signed polaroids, amongst other merch, and we just had to get something. So we hurried over there, and actually got to meet them and talk with them face to face! They were so incredibly kind!!
We both opted to each get a signed group polaroid with them (we wanted to get penlights but they were $40 each, which was a bit much) and man it was just so amazing.
Best end to a day ever. Also best day ever, just like in general.
At this point it was freezing and it was also beginning to get dark, so it was time to head back to the station.
And that was the end of the day! Honestly I'm still just smiling thinking back on it, and it was only a couple of days ago. I won't be forgetting this day for a long, long time.
Thank you for reading my report! ^^
(and keep an eye out for more in the future 👀)
Lucky to get out of that downpour, I had fun basking in the festival atmosphere of AnimeGO! Japan Pop Culture Festival, this time at the Adelaide Festival Centre. As always, I do the best I can with what little I have to capture the energy of the event.
Thank you to everyone who participated in the video, you all looked great and I very much appreciated your time and patience.
