I don't think this Gafinilan likes Visser 3. When he got attacked by a random hawk, he assumed the Andalite he saw was Visser 3. They are not friends. And unless Gafinilan is one hell of a liar...he doesn't know what Visser 3 looks like.

But it's possible he has been keeping tabs on the "Andalite bandits" and knew plenty about them before he saw Marco demorph.

Which we're now worried about all of a sudden, as though Cassie didn't morph right there on the stairs of the Yeerk pool back in book 1.

What lottery did Marco win that he's the only one who gets to have consistent characterization and a traceable character arc regardless of ghostwriters. Why are even his sidetrack filler books banger. #35 do not interact.

Animorphs 40: The Other

When the kids have gotten to the point that not only do they assume a strange (not Visser 3) Andalite is a threat, but they attack on sight, without even trying to talk first.

How's the war going?

I notice a pattern in the series: having a POV character who is put in a situation where the opposite of their main thing comes out.

Jake, the leader, being helpless. Rachel, the "let's do it" one, feeling afraid or just wanting out of the whole thing. Cassie doing something ruthless.

(And Ax having to act against his people. I can't think of a good example for Tobias offhand. I love the scene in The Predator (I think? The one where he thinks a family member has shown up) where his habitual expressionlessness from being a hawk saves him, but that's a different thing.)

Or Marco, the cautious, anxious one, doing something brave bordering on reckless.

I'm thinking both him flying too close to the greenhouse (for no particular reason, really) and again mouthing off to Gafinilan while in an extremely vulnerable position.

It provides complexity.

Starting#40, aka Gay Disabled Andalite Afterschool Special, and I'm regretfully remembering that I can't be normal about Marco Animorphs. I can't even get through the boilerplate "here's the premise of the series" opening text without getting slammed with lines like "We become whatever we need to become...All of which makes that 'who are you' question a whole lot more complicated for me than for, say, about 99.9 percent of folks on this planet." and "Obviously, there are a lot of issues we have to deal with. Issues far too complex for the six of us to waste a lot of time thinking about."

The real question is did they give Marco the gay book because he's the only one Applegate knows is gay.
