To be honest I'm not a fan of when people say that "Iason didn't truly love Riki" not because I like iariki (even if I'm aware it plays a part in my dislike) but because that goes against to what ai no kusabi says about love and one of it's main themes.

(When I say love, I mean love in general, not romantic love)

Ai no kusabi as a work has certain opinions about love: love is a feeling inherent to the human existence, and secondly, love manifests in a lot of ways. With this, Ai no kusabi rejects the idea of love as something inherently pure and good. Why? Because for ai no kusabi, love is something all humans experience, and because not all people are good, love will not exclusively manifest in good and healthy ways. This is also something that the theme of "love manifests in a lot of ways" says, love has not only one pure and good form, it can manifest in a lot of ways including unhealthy, bad attachments. All of the characters in Ai no kusabi experience love although in an unhealthy and twisted way, because they live in a corrupted society (Amoi) that makes them unable to learn how to love in a proper way.

Because Ai no kusabi states all of that, it's contradictory to say that "Iason doesn't truly love Riki" because saying that is saying love has only one form, a pure and good one, something Ai no kusabi disagrees with. It's also important to mention that this applies to all of the other characters, saying that guy didn't truly love Riki or that Riki didn't truly love Guy is also contradictory to the themes.

Obviously, it is okay to have a different opinion about the nature of love than Ai no kusabi, but it's important to understand that this particular work disagrees with that opinion.
