Congratulations, Romina and Ann!
Romina Diaz' and Ann Wizer's exhibit opening yesterday was a great success. Then again, so many of of us worked so hard, most of all, the two artists themselves and the Wildcats.
And yes, Ginny Mata, Silvana Diaz, Angel Shaw, and me too.
****
Yesterday's opening was probably one of the biggest Galleria Duemila has ever had. The art was showcased inside the gallery as well as out on the street. So were the performances. We had street food outside the gallery: popcorn, hotdogs, manggang hilaw, peanuts, pancakes, buko pandan juice, chocolate milk, fish balls, mais etc. It was a fiesta atmosphere. The gallery guests watched the performances side-by-side with the people who lived on the street, just as we had hoped: the literal rubbing of elbows. As far as I could tell, everyone enjoyed themselves, the Wildcats most of all. They were shining.
It was also my daughter's first exhibit. I've taken her to several art openings, but this was the first time she was one of the artists. She had tagged along to Duemila during one of our workshops and became saling-pusa. She's the wild kitten amongst the Wildcats. She played with them, bonded with them, became a part of them. One of the installations within the gallery is a series of dollhouses made of balikbayan boxes. My daughter built one of them, her name below the box on an acetate tag. I am a proud mommy.
And I am proud to have had a small part in this project. Romina, Ann, Angel, Silvana and Ginny, WE ROCKED LORING!
My gratitude to all who came, saw and was a part of it. The exhibit is open until March 31st 2008.

Living On Loring Moves...and we need your help! (EVERYONE READ!)
The Living on Loring exhibit has been moved to Museo Pambata. Together with Romina Diaz and Ann Wizer. The Wildcats Girls will be responsible for 2 kids each ranging from 8 to 12 years old passing on the skills that they have learned from the "Living on Loring" workshop conducted last February to April at the Galleria Duemila on Loring street in Pasay City. They will be constructing treasure boxes filled with childhood dreams, putting inside these colorful boxes things that they dream and wish for. With hopes that in envisioning their dreams, a certain confidence inside them pushes them to better and change their lives. On the 4th and the 11th of June will be the workshops conducted by Both Artist Romina Diaz and Ann Wizer, each artist will be responsible of a different day. The 11th will be dedicated to the construction of the treasure chest, filling the box with pictures of dreams. The 11th of June will be dedicated to recycling, an art mastered by Ann Wizer herself. Using found objects they will create beautiful pieces they can fill their treasure chests with. Like toy cars made of bottles and necklaces made of plastic pieces and who knows what a child's hands and mind can create. "Living on Loring" is an experience that must be passed on, not just from artist to student but from person to person. It is an example of society working together in order to create a better world. The "Living on Loring concept" is designed to remind us about the individuality of each of these children. That despite their lack of fortune, material belongings and education, they all have a beating heart that moves an innocent mind to make beautiful things, in hopes that they just might remind forgetful hearts that a great humanity exists and we must act upon it. The launching of the "Moving Loring" exhibit will be on the 14th of June at the Museo Pambata, along with the dollhouses and the installation photographs they took during their workshop that was exhibited at Galleria Duemila. They will be displayed at one of the museums major hall ways, accompanied by the 25 treasure chest that the Luneta children will make in the 2 workshops.
Museo Pambata will be exhibiting the show for 1 month in hopes that other foundations and groups will look into this interactive installation and inspire other communities to move forward with the dream.
Musicians, please donate your talent. We cannot pay you a talent fee or an honorarium, but we will try to feed you, and there will be press and it will be exposure. Non-musical? Not a problem, you can still help by donating Php1000 for a street food cart. Broke? Please pass the word and help us get this opening together, and attend, bring everyone you know.
Reply here if you can help out...just a little support is life support to others, remember that. Tugtugan na!
INVISIBLE (Unseen People, Unseen Waste)
Start: Oct 25, '08 2:00pLocation: Galleria Duemila, Pasay City
An artist talk with Ann Wizer and photojournalists Gigie Cruz, Tammy David, Liz Finlayson, and Cris Sevilla including the first INVISIBLE Institute art auction. October 25, 2008 at 2:30 P.M. Galleria Duemila, Pasay City THIS IS NOT ABOUT GARBAGE. Nor is this is simply about “ART” made from garbage. Garbage is the fact, the starting point, the given in our consumerist equation, but we need to go beyond it and examine the crux of the problem. So says Ann Wizer, internationally acclaimed installation artist and social activist, “the real issues at hand are the intertwined politics of trash and poverty, and how they stem from irresponsible and partial corporate agendas.” Poverty and waste have become invisible to us, to the point that we can no longer see who or what is around us. How then can we manage this disconnect, of our being removed from our surroundings, the “stuff” of our lives, and from other people? The vision of the INVISIBLE Institute is to teach simple, income-generating skills (i.e. crocheting) to marginalized women like mothers and grandmothers from Manila’s urban poor areas while calling attention to unnoticed yet potentially useful waste. In her artist talk, Wizer will talk about the role of the artist in communities, and the continually evolving INVISIBLE Institute. Joining her are photojournalists Tammy David, Cris Sevilla, Gigie Cruz, and Liz Finlayson: they will also discuss the importance of documentation in ongoing projects like the INVISIBLE Institute. The women of the INVISIBLE Institute will auction off their products (handbags, hats, etc.) at this event.
