Tmp. Tmp. Tmp.
There were heavy footsteps behind Rodyle, slow and somewhat unsteady. He turned to see who or what it could be.
Oh Goddess, another exebula. He hated them. They were revolting, and no matter how many he dealt with he was always unsettled by that. Their looks were the least of his problem, though. They showed the kind of power that humans had, didn't know how to use, and would help them in their pitiful revolts. That's the kind of power Desians harvested in the ranches, harnessed in a usable way in Exspheres. However, if another one of these appeared, it meant that they had not succeeded in that.
That's another reason he hated them. To him, they symbolized failure. Of all the methods and modifications they had made, the system still wasn't stable enough to put their worthless lives to use. For most of them, it was enough, but there were still those who fell through.
Might as well find out who the odd duck was. He read the number stitched onto the smock. A012?! That woman from the Angelus Project? Oh, Kvar wasn't going to be happy about this. Not only had she escaped, been on the run for years, but now that they had finally found her again, she had been mutated. He supposed it wasn't entirely unexpected, though. With that Exsphere, the risk of instability was extraordinarily high. Awakening their power was dangerous enough, but the additional draw to make the transition to Cruxis Crystal required a particularly resilient person. Most exebulas didn't last long, even if they weren't exterminated by the ranch. People mistook them for the typical field monsters and killed them.
Though, truth be told, it was probably a blessed relief to the person who died. It was a wretched, horrible way to live.
At any rate, the problem at hand. She was here, and it didn't look like much could be done to help her condition, however far along she was. He should look into that.
"Do you remember your name?" he asked. The first thing to check was to see if the being could still recognize and understand speech. He hoped she didn't recognize his role in her becoming this way, at least not any time soon.
