Same Patterns Part 4
Can you tag permanently on Same Patterns? Please! I can wait for part 3
Sure thing! I’m posting it sometime Friday!
HELLO! OMG, I JUST WANTED TO SAY THAT I LOVE YOUR WORK! and of course wanted to ask you if you have any advice for an aspiring fanfic writer? I've always kinda just been lurking around but you and other writers out here have inspired me to start my own blog. AGAIN, I love youuuu!
Hello hello hello!! I JUST WANTED TO SAY THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!! I also think it’s great that you’ve been inspired to start a blog! writing on Tumblr is probably one of the best decisions I made because it’s taught me so much and given me more confidence to put myself out there!
So yeah, advice. Well strap in ladies an gentlemen because I’m going to go all out here.
Firstly I would have to say is ’Just do it.’ I had been inspired so many times from different things to start a blog or post stuff elsewhere but I never ended up going through with it. You need to get one thing out there and then it is so much easier to put up more content because hey, you’ve already done it before - kinda. so post that random drabble you have in a folder. Put up that first chapter. That 5 minute sketch from when you were bored in class. It doesn’t matter what it is, just put it online. It took me forever to put up Part 1 of She Loves You because I kept second guessing myself. I thought about keeping it on my computer just for myself, but ultimately when I was talking to another writer about it, she unknowingly gave me that push to say, just press ‘post’ at least one person does want to read it. Basically, take that leap into putting that first bbit of content out there.
Sometimes you need that extra push from others without even knowing it. I kept putting it off because I was nervous on what people would think of my work.
This leads to my second bit of advice, Talk to other writers, or if it’s not a writing blog you want to do, talk to other people doing the same thing you are interested in doing. Talk to people who have already been there; whether it’s for advice on a bit of Writers Block that you’ve hit, or for some help in describing that one scene just right. It could also just be for that little push I was talking about earlier. It never hurts to drop in a “Hey, do you mind…” (let me just say that yes this is an invitation to PM for anything. I’m happy to answer any questions or give advice or motivation) Other writers are also really good at getting your work out there. We’re like a big family and we help each other out.
Thirdly, don’t worry about not being regular. Yes it helps to attract more readers, especially in the beginning, because it means more people are able to keep up with consistent posting, but don’t freak out about it. Everyone understands that life can change and sometimes it’s just not feasible to write and post at a particular time. Whether it’s exams, work, or just having too many other things to do first, nobody expects you to put your blog above that. You do what is comfortable with you.
Lastly, don’t worry about negative reviews. That was my biggest fear in posting my work. It made it real and I was scared that it wasn’t as good as I thought it was.. it sounds irrational and everyone says, “Dont worry But what others think” but the truth is that its a levitate fear for some people. BUT. And here comes the big but. Don’t let that stop you from trying. Think of it like this:- You will never know unless you do it. You’ll never know that hundreds of people actually liked it or that someone liked it so much that they read it TWICE! It’s a magical feeling when you find that out and you never truly know that joy until it happens to you; that first comment or reblog. Even if there may be some negs there’ll be so many positive things to focus on.
I guess all I’m saying is talk to other writers, post when you are comfortable, but don’t be afraid of pushing those boundaries of where you are comfortable just a little bit more. And once it’s done, it’s done. Focus of the positives and rewards of your blog and never be afraid to ask for advice so GOOD ON YOU NONNIE!
May I please be added to your permanent tag list? TIA!
Sure thing!! I’ll add you right away. Tune in for part 2!
Same Patterns Part 1
Hi <3 what’s your favorite flower?
Hi!!
Hmm…
I think lilacs or lavenders are my favourite, though I haven’t ever really leaned towards any particular flower. I usually get whatever the store has that’s not SUPER expensive for the house.
Hey girl! Is your taglist for Same Patterns still open? If so, could you add (@minervaem) to it? Thank you so much! Can't wait how it goes!
