Anna Livia Joyce made many comments about people drowning at sea or being rescued by Liffey but closer to his Martello tower than the river he called Anna Livia Plurabelle you will find this fantastic RNLI lifeboat called Anna Livia in Dun Laoghaire. Over the years, the RNLI lost many men who heroically left Dun Laoghaire to help rescue others but never made it home themselves. I wonder how many of those stories James Joyce was aware of. Today you will find a ferry called Ulysses sailing from there and a naval vessel called LÉ James Joyce but I think the name that Joyce would have loved the most is the one crewed by local volunteers who risk it all to head out to sea when everyone else wants to make it back to port. #rnli #rnlife #annalivia #annaliviaplurabelle #sar #searchandrescue #léjamesjoyce #mvulysses #martellotower #rnlicrew @joycetower.ie @rnli #rnliannalivia (at Dun Laoghaire Harbour) https://www.instagram.com/p/CeaxcvqIcGT/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
