I literally typed out February three times above before I got it right and typed January. Why am I so excited for February?
The TEDxMMU talk AND UiTM Lendu Melaka show were both amazing. I am SO happy that after the talk so many people came up to me to ask questions. It felt really nice to spread the positive vibes what with everything that is going on around the world. Especially good vibes about career paths and ambitions. It was food for my soul to be able to reach out and share past experiences with all these people.
And then UiTM Lendu was HAVOC! The crowd was insane and so responsive, what with the jumping! I have not played to a crowd that was SO COOL in YEARS. Some personal thoughts: people at the gigs I play at these days are always so worried about looking stupid that they don’t even dance in the crowds anymore and that really breaks my heart. Having fun is so much cooler than looking cool. And the UiTM students were ALL about having fun, and I am in love with each and everyone of them. I am also so in love with the boys of SOG (Sekumpulan Orang Gila) you know, those boys I did that single Kau, Sempurna with? (They are those men in the second photo)
Honest to the heavens, those days leading up to the show in Melaka, when we would rehearse, I kept on wanting to throw pieces of my heart into their faces. There’s something about their presence that makes me feel well taken care of and safe even in a home that I BARELY go to. (And they are people I barely hang out with too). And even Ryan shares this feeling about them.
The twins, Abang and Adek, are two very special people and I know they’ve been through a lot; but what I respect so much about them is that they still manage to stay grounded and respectful; no matter how many screaming fans they have garnered over the years. And they always, ALWAYS remember their loved ones. When their late mother passed they had written this song with her:
Check out “BULANKU” by SOG here.
And performing that song with them (even though just on the bass and on back up vocals) was a whole different experience of performance. I had to try VERY hard not to cry on stage. That song was written with so much love mixed with pain but also acceptance which is the most touching part, in my opinion.
Anyways, about the Safe Space Tea Party.
It is coming up REAL soon and I am real nervous for it. But I went out the other night with all those beautiful ladies (pictured above) and we talked through some things, and I can assure you it’s going to be a really good time. I cannot wait to document it and have them out in short vlogs!
Next up, Kuching.
I’m performing with Narmi! And Narmi, Ryan and I in Kuching together? That’s going to be havoc. I can promise you. So many videos are about to come your way since January has been a busy month (and I’m not complaining. I am so happy!)
Bigger things are to come, I can feel it. But for the mean time, keep me posted on what YOU guys are doing and what YOU guys wanna do while I’m still in Malaysia.
Thanks for sticking around!
