Reading your most recent post and now I’m curious, if you could, how would you design a brand new dc villain?
*nervously thinks to Gate Latch, the evil DC villain I made up while taking to some co-workers at work*
Well first of all I wouldn't make them cut and dry I-want-to-see-the-world-burn. Second of all they wouldn't be abusive and psychotic. They'd see what they're doing as probably not very good but that okay because it will end good. They won't actively try to kill the good guys, and they won't put innocent people in danger.
I want more likable villains in all honesty. More villains like Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy and Deathstroke. Villains who know right and wrong but also have such a complicated past and backstory that they don't see a way out of doing bad. They just want to get the job done or preserve the things they love. Who only fight the good guys when the good guys activate a fight themselves. Who make you question if right is really right and wrong is really wrong.
I'm really tired of reading stories or watching movies where you can confidently point and say "this is the hero. This is the bad guy."
Anyways Anna. You always ask hard questions. And I can ramble on forever about how I'd make a new villain, but I think these are my main thoughts on it.
Like, begone with villains who are so evil and undeniably evil and who know they're evil and like being evil and blah blah blah. It doesn't feel real anymore ya know?
