Sebastian Sallow head canons
"When a book is locked away, it instantly interests me twice as much."
Physically, he grows into himself between fifth and seventh year: broader shoulders, Beater build, somewhere around 1.75–1.80 m eventually.
He plays Quidditch as a Beater, but he does not want Quidditch as a career. For him, Quidditch is a hobby and a release, not a life plan.
He is popular enough to be admired, but emotionally reclusive enough that most people only know a version of him.
Around Hogwarts, he and Ominis have almost mythic Slytherin reputations: Sebastian as the capable, dangerous knight; Ominis as the untouchable prince. Anne does not have a nickname like that, because she has other friends besides them.
Solomon often compares him to Mortimer as an insult. Sebastian secretly does not experience being like Mortimer as entirely insulting, because he loved his father despite his flaws. He does not want to become Solomon’s version of Mortimer, but he does not hate the resemblance itself.
His anger is lion-like: pacing, loud, hot, unable to sit still, gesturing with his hands, taking up space
Anne and Sebastian lived with their parents on the other side of Scotland in a town called Eyemouth. They had a lovely house there, in outskirts, next to the beach. The parents had a lab in the basement. While the bedrooms of everybody was upstairs. They even had two guestrooms, one for Ominis and one for Solomon.
His parents are called Edith nee Kaplan and Mortimer Sallow. They were both professors at the university in Edinburgh. Edith was specialised in potions and Mortimer in Curses and Counter Curses.
His father was charming, reckless and carried a positive attitude, which he passed onto his son along side with his dueling skills. Mortimer was the younger brother to Solomon, and the strict, rule-following older brother did not like the way Mortimer could get away with everything by being nice and a jolly good fellow.
Solomon does not want his nephew to pick up this behaviour, because hard work and work ethics are very important to him and Sebastian already shows signs of arrogance and a flawed moral compass.
Actually he has the flawed moral compass from his mother, who believed wisdom and seeking knowledge should come above everything else and that no information itself is either good or bad, it depends on the usage and intentions of those who yield it.
His mother was intrigued by the creation of bottled liquid fire. Fire potions already being tricky and not very shelf stable in nature, they tend to be one of the great challenges for potion master.
The family had invited Solomon and Ominis for Christmas in 1898. The evening before the big day, the twins got in a fight with their parents, especially Anne and her mother, because Anne wanted them to spend time together and Edith argued, she needed to finish her work, before they could. Anne yelled at them that they are gonna drop dead if they continue to work constantly. Next morning, when Anne came to appologise she found them lifeless in the basement.
Her scream woke up Sebastian who ran downstairs to check on her, only to find her clinging to her mother's corpse. Sebastian froze in sheer panic and had to be dragged out by Solomon. Later Anne was dragged out. Aurors came to investigate, but nothing was found, so it was just labeled as an accident while working with dangerous magic.
Sebastian does not know it, because he hadn't had time to unpack his christmas gift, but his parents brought him a new beater racket with a name + "be brave" as an engraving.
Anne and Sebastian had to pack put their bags and leave on the same day to live with Solomon in Feldcroft. They couldn't carry everything with them, so a lot of stuff stayed behind. Neither of the Sallows has entered the house ever since. It's frozen in time of christmas morning.
Sebastian does not like Feldcroft particularly, nor do the villagers like him. He seems to be always wandering around, trying to avoid Solomon and that apparently gives of the wrong impression to the town people.
Because Solomons house is quite small and there are only two beds in there (I swear I did not found a third bed in his house), Anne and Solomon stay in the house and Sebastian sleeps in the attic of a barn. He actually likes having a place to himself but chooses to stay in Hogwarts for winter break mostly because the barn has no heating.
In his room there is an unholy amount of socks and dirty clothes (for that time) laying around, since Anne refuses to do his laundry and Sebastian can't really be bothered to do it.
On school breaks he does quite the amount of reading, but he also helps Solomon with some tedious tasks, like wood work and yard work and light repairs. So he is handy with hammer and tools in general.
Actually knows how to ride a carriage, but prefers a broom all the way.
Most of the time he picks tasks which led him away from the house and Solomon, because otherwise they would constantly pick fights. And yeah, he looks for clams and oysters on the coast / reef, or checks weirs in the rivers, or actually fishes by hand. Always carries his fathers knife with him, who taught him how to do that.
He can chug oysters very fast, but still somehow slams the knife in his hands.
All over his hands he has a lot of scars from various adventures.
His favorite sweet are lemon drops. Other favorite dishes are: Cullen Skink, Cock-a-Leekie Soup
Smart enough to take alchemy in sixth year.
Wand: 13'', Slightly springy, dragon heart string core, Blackthorne
