and like, as ive said, geten to me is interesting thematically because you could very easily tie parallels between him, dabi, shoto, and hawks;

hes the worst outcome of what touya could have become if his body had allowed him to withstand his own flame. strength was the only value he was assigned by his parent, he understood his purpose for existing and was desperate to fulfill it. for shoto, its what he could have been if he didnt have his mother or siblings there to give him anything outside of that ambition for power, if he didnt have that kind of love that instilled him with the sense of justice he develops and that leads to his resentment for his father and rejection of his philosophy. he and hawks were both abandoned by their families, given new names that remove them from all sense of origin, and turned into weapons, but hawks was given to society whereas geten was kept from it.

geten is just the worst ending, the most extreme manifestation of what using children as property and tools to seize or keep power means. geten is desperate not to be "liberated"-- but to 'repay' Re-Destro for taking him in and to make him happy. we dont see him do the liberation salute, and when we get his inner monologue, its all about redestro. he talks about the future society "we're" achieving, but nobody else expresses what he does. when we see his motivations for fighting dabi, we see that its because re-destro told him he was important. geten is not an executive, and when the mla is being first introduced in their spread, the bubble around geten (which does not label him by name, unlike the executives) is the speech bubble about how long theyve been preparing for war.

geten exists only to serve that ambition. and hawks, dabi, and shoto all easily could have been in the same place, because they too were made with "ambition" in mind. is anyone else crazy i feel crazy
