In Hive City, it was important to keep your edge sharp. An attack could potentially occur at any time, from any direction. Anyone you didn’t know (and maybe a few you did) could potentially be a danger. He’d even been paranoid enough to thoroughly inspect both his swords and his bike when he’d come back, just to be on the safe side.
But you could only be so paranoid for so long. A mindset like that got pretty exhausting after a while, and it wore down the mind in its own way. Besides, even he had to admit that while anything in the City might kill him, the odds of something making an effort on any given day were relatively low.
In other words, he had to learn to relax a little more often. He couldn’t stay like this forever. All that effort to stay on his toes, 24/7, would ultimately only backfire on him.
Even so, he hadn’t intended to end up in a karaoke bar. That was accidental.
He certainly couldn’t complain about the singing, though. The blonde on stage was definitely too good of a signer to be doing karoake. She ought to be making her own music, not signing somebody else’s.
Actually, come to think of it... she looked a little bit familiar. Had she been here, two years or so back? he might’ve just seen her around a time or two, back then. Maybe it was just his own imagination, though. Only one way to find out, he supposed; and the song was winding down to a close.
