➳{ Surely the world had gone mad.
For a moment, everything was as it should have been. Despite the substantial weight of their involuntary stay in this town, many days and nights passed in a calming (if not monotonous) peace. Yet a brief walk introduced the very fabric of reality tearing itself apart. Abnormal tears were scattered about, revealing an entirely different world. One she was all too familiar with.
“The Fade?” she breathed softly, baffled by this phenomenon.
Peering into a nearby tear, her pure golden hues brighten at the familiar scenery. Without a shred of hesitation, she stepped through until the world enveloped her. After all, this world felt almost like home to her despite its dangers. The sky was painted a sickening green and decorated with floating terrain. Sections of Hive’s streets melded with foreign objects and structures. Spirits appeared and disappeared from view as they roamed the otherworldly land. And in the distance high above, the spires of the Black City peeked over its own floating island.
The voices of the ancient elves whispered their way into her thoughts, overlapping each other until she was unable to clearly make out what they spoke of. However she did note the tone of concern in their indecipherable words. And she couldn’t help but feel the same. This was not a dream, which was the typical way of entering the Fade.
No, she was physically present…along with someone else.
“You there,” she raised her voice, ensuring that she would capture their attention, “How are you able to be here?”
Her expression was calm, yet her mind raced through millions of questions. Entering the Fade was an impossible feat, with the exception of a certain individual. Hundreds of mages had attempted in the past, and all of their efforts were in vain. Yet there they stood, nonchalant and oblivious to the world around them.
Gaze shifting, the android turned her head to lock eyes with the stranger that called out to her. Her voice had broken the eerie silence that seemed far too rare for a section of the city like this. She wasn’t entirely sure where in the city she ended up in, or even precisely how she had gotten here, but it appeared the woman was equally as confused as she was at the moment.
“‘Here’...?” She repeated, the look of concern slowly beginning to manifest upon her features. “Sorry, I’m... not sure what you mean, ma’am. We’reー we’re in Hive City right now, yeah?” She cast her gaze upwards, noting the twinkling of the towering skyscrapers above.
“... I’m actually not sure how I ended up here. I wasn’t here a few moments ago.”
