mafuyu bloomfest made me particularly yukihina brained so here's a small snippet of them being stupid. take it as an (early) gift for Hadal-Abyssal reaching 100 kudos
Mafuyu likes having plans. She follows the facts she learns in university to pass her classes. She follows standard social cues for to effectively interact with others. When the routine is broken she simply moves onto another, her plans like mazes zig zagging into each other. Mafuyu doesn’t care to freeze anymore. Standards, especially those self-imposed, does her well.
So, when she can't find the ocean photo book she knows she left at the Yoisaki household, Mafuyu simply conducts the most effective way to kick Hina's ass.
Step 1: Find her target. This is difficult given her tendencies to cherry pick days to visit. Something something not wanting to bother them. Mafuyu's inclusion in that statement is polite at best. Whatever. She is nothing but patient.
After university she makes the hour ride to the Yoisaki house to stake Hina out. Every day. Kanade admires her determination. Ena just calls her stupid. Nothing disturbs her mission.
The fruits of her labor finally come on a weekend. Mafuyu wanders in the living room only to see Hina on the couch, scribbling away at homework. She jumps when she sees her, just as she always does when someone dares to breathe in her direction. They stare. The tension couldn't be broken by a sledgehammer.
“Are you going to tell me where my book went?”
“I don't know what you're talking about,” Hina says, turning back to her work. Mafuyu's eye twitches.
“Asako Narahashi. Half Awake and Half Asleep in the Water. I left it in your room while I was putting up your tapestry. Where is it?”
Hina looks more enamored by her math equations each passing second. “Can't you look for it yourself?”
“Can I go into your room?”
Hina briefly glowers at her. “No.”
“Then, no.” Mafuyu takes a seat next to her. Hina side-eyes her, hesitantly inching away. “I don't need to know where it is now. I just want to know if you have it.”
Step 2: Confrontation. Neither of them want to have this conversation, but Hina being a prick in her side has forced her hand. Her glare could level skyscrapers. “Why?”
She flinches, a flush climbing across her cheeks. Aha. Maybe Mafuyu shouldn't prey on her teacher's pet-isms this much, but it might get her the book back. Also, watching Hina begin to puff out like a chipmunk is comical. Some may say hilarious.
“That's your problem,” she declares, slowly returning to her homework. Mafuyu watches her go to mark the page, only to stop, resume, stop again. She exhales a long breath from her nose. “When is it due?”
Hina hums, effectively ending the conversation. Atleast, she could only hope it could. Unfortunately Mafuyu is set on a goal.
“Just tell me you have it,” she drawls, shuffling closer. Hina straightens like a board, fully looking at her this time. “I won't be mad at you.”
“I don't care about what you feel about me.”
“I don't.” Hina squints at her, the pout Ena adores forming. Probably because it mirrors hers more than it should. Hina has always been bad for Ena's ego. “You're being annoying. What do you want?”
Mafuyu raises an eyebrow. “I want my book.”
Huh. She adequately realized that Mafuyu is outsourcing her attention by using her annoyance and recognized the book is not her primary target. Impressive for a Mafuyu who, until just a year ago, thought losing those emotions would be the only way to grow up. Maybe Hina's patterns are finally calibrating to the reality of this world.
Some part of her is implicitly proud. Most of her just wants her stuff back. Mafuyu rules with the majority. Somewhere in a ramen aisle Kanade is being struck by the mass disappointment of her not being nice to herself again. It doesn't compare to dealing with her in highschool, so Mafuyu does not care. Maybe one day they'll get even.
“I want my book, but it seems like I have to resort to other ways of getting it.”
Mafuyu creeps even closer. Hina flinches. Her body suddenly tightens, flattens into itself. Trembling hands finding each other to curl into. Her voice shrinks into a shaky inhale.
Mafuyu isn't surprised. She had determined Hina's uneasiness would be a roadblock the moment she designed her plans. Yet, seeing her face immediately shift into terror feels like a slap in the face. She pivots.
“Are you okay?” Mafuyu asks, moving back towards her side. Hina blinks wildly. “This isn't a reprimand.”
“I'm fine.” The shock in her expression begins to morph into confusion. “What are you doing?”
“You won't tell me where my book is, so I must find other avenues,” Mafuyu says. “Can I?”
Hina's eyebrows dip at once. “You're asking for permission to scrutinize me?”
“Yes. If proximity is an issue, I have numerous non-contact ways available.”
Mafuyu watches her for several beats. “I'm not scared of you.”
“That's not what I asked.”
“Do what you want,” she declares, turning to face her directly. “I'm not scared of you.”
Mafuyu studies her face. The fear that had overtaken her had vanished, leaving her strong, almost confident. Mafuyu is awashed with another sense of nonsensical pride.
If she fully pivots onto another plan Hina would catch her hesitance and see it as weakness, thoroughly prodding on it until she gives in and reveals her original feelings. She's worse than Mizuki in that regard. So, faced with Hina's fire-brimmed eyes, Mafuyu does the only thing she can do. She embarks onto step 3.
Mafuyu throws them both on the couch. She sits on Hina's legs, pins her arms over her head. The legs she had pinned down start kicking in indignation.
“You can't just–” Mafuyu ghosts her armpits, and she shakes wildly. She attempts to stifle her laughter with her hands. Interesting. “Yuki!”
“I want to know where my book is.” Mafuyu ventures further in the ditch of her arms, producing more strained giggles. “Admit you have it.”
“I'm not–” Hina struggles to breathe through the tickle onslaught. Her ability to still look pissed with a grin is incredible. “Ha– You can't! I'm not..!”
“Do you need time for air?”
Hina squirms, but does manage to nod. The moment her hands leave her she gasps like she just broke up for air after being waterboarded. It takes a few seconds for her eyes to refocus, but when they do she doesn't hesitate to shoot her the meanest glare Mafuyu has ever seen.
“I'm not admitting anything to anyone who resorts to– to childish tactics like this.” She jolts as Mafuyu pounces back on her. “Wait–! You just said you'll stop!”
“Not applicable to insults.” Mafuyu's hands start to tickle her shoulders. She seizes. “I thought your arms would be the most affected. You really are an enigma.”
One of Hina's hands almost hits her in the face. “Don't call me that.”
“I'm curious,” Mafuyu says, moving to her neck. “Are you ticklish everywhere? That makes you an easy target. Easier than Kanade, even.”
“You have no right to that information.”
“I want to know if you took my book.” Sensing she might have already garnered her victory, she stops for one merciful second. “Are you going to admit you have it?”
Hina heaves before, with a tiny, growing smile, shakes her head. Mafuyu proceeds to step 4: Descending hell.
She really is ticklish everywhere. Hands Feet. Arms. Legs. Stomach. Mafuyu isn't surprised by this either– she gave Mizuki an unfortunate knee to the stomach when she first surprised her with a tickle attack. It is why Mafuyu thought of this method; the effectiveness of physical touch is bare none. It disrupts even logic.
It's only when she mistimed a transition between her foot and her back that Hina thrashes a leg free and kicks her right in the face. She manages to escape while Mafuyu crashes onto the floor.
“You!” She gasps, scurrying to the other side of the couch. “I hate you. I despise you.”
Tell her something new. Mafuyu hisses as she regathers herself off the floor, massaging the bruise already forming between her eyes. What is with Hina always aiming for her face?
She opens her eyes to Hina looking at her owlishly, her hands clutching a sole throw pillow like a shield against an incoming missile. Her face is several hues pinker and her hair is blown every which way. She's sure her eyes are irritated too, but that may be the lighting.
Mafuyu is suddenly reminded of Ena's many declarations of Hina's adorableness. She is, kinda. In the way an angry kitten is adorably pathetic. Somewhat.
“Unfortunately not.” Hina frowns, but the tension in her shoulders loosens. “Are you okay?”
“No.” She burrows herself behind the pillow. “I'm never coming back. You ruined it.”
“Alright.” Hina shrinks into the couch arm as Mafuyu embarks back on the couch. “I still didn't get an answer.”
“Pry it out of my cold dead hands.”
“Ena's taught you alot.” Hina's face whitens in horror as she creeps closer. “Unfortunately she doesn't know a way out of this.”
Before she could protest, Mafuyu tugs on her ankles, clampers on top of her, and obnoxiously blows on her neck. Hina shrieks with giggles. Mafuyu suddenly feels an immense warmth in hearing the sound, so she does so again. And again. Hina laughs until she loses her breath.
“Get off, get off, get off–ehe!” Her feet could resemble a rotor with how hard she's kicking against the cushion. She attempts to hit at her again, but her blows are too light to even register. Everything is too light to register. For a moment all that matters is Hina, howling like a madman under her.
She only thinks about stopping once the laughter suddenly chokes to a halt. Mafuyu parts just enough to check Hina's face, only to see her eyes aren't on her at all. She pulls herself to a sitting position. Follows Hina's line of sight to see– Mizuki, Kanade, and Ena, their hands full of groceries.
“Oh.” She brushes back the wisps of hair that had escaped her bun during the festivities. “Welcome home. I didn't see you come in.”
Hina cringes underneath her, pressing her face into the cushions like it would swallow her whole. Mafuyu takes this as a sign to finally relent her torture. She crosses back to her side.
“What? Would've never guessed.” Mizuki skips over to the couch for a kiss. She snickers at the welt when they pull away. “That's a wicked bruise.”
Hina's voice is muffled from the pillow in her mouth. “She started it.”
“Technically you did, with the…” Hina briefly parts from the pillow to glare at her. She huffs. “Okay.”
“I'm glad you two had fun.” Kanade says. They meet eyes for a second, her sincere smile growing into something more knowing. Mafuyu isn't able to discern what it could mean before she turns towards the kitchenette. “Can you two help us with groceries? Ena convinced me in getting a bit of a haul.”
“You can't say it's a haul every time we get vegetables, K,” Ena sighs, following after her. Kanade’s laughter floats easily through the air.
Mafuyu moves to get up, but Hina stays prone on the couch. Mizuki's smile grows when she spots her. “Don't be embarrassed, Hina-chan! She gets us all with that trick.”
There's a few beats of silence before Hina's body twitches. She squeaks, “Really?”
“Really! It's like her magnum opus. One trick pony over here.” She nudges Mafuyu. “Maybe with you around, we can finally show her who's boss!”
Hina slowly stirs, finally rising out of her cushion enclave. Her face is blotchy with tears and embarrassment, but a meek, almost shy hope peeks from her despair. Mafuyu is momentarily stunned at seeing such a glow so openly.
“Do you really think so?”
“Yep! Everyone has weaknesses.” She leans closer to Hina conspiratorily. “And you know Yuki's more than anyone!”
“Mizuki stop yapping and start putting things away!” Ena's head swivels to the living room. “We need you too, Mafuyus.”
Hina finally jolts up, bowing at Mizuki before running to join Ena in the kitchen. Mizuki and Mafuyu watch her busy herself with the light mundanity of organizing groceries.
“She's genuinely going to try and kill me.”
She looks over. Mizuki's phone screen displays a single video. Three entire minutes of honors student Asahina “Hina” Mafuyu being at the mercy of tickles. Mizuki’s lips curl into the most shit-eating grin imaginable.
Mafuyu immediately reaches for her wallet. “How much?”
“Cash? Millions.” Mizuki quietly tiptoes over to whisper in her ear. “Though, I'm open to having a spot in your tickle court.”
Mafuyu scoffs, a smile ghosting her own features. “I have no idea why Hina thinks I'm the evil one.”
“What she doesn’t know won’t hurt her.” Mizuki pats at her shoulder, pressing a finger to her lips before pulling her further home.
