Summary: Janus just wanted a quiet evening at home. Instead he had to pick up his boyfriend that got arrested. Again.

Janus sighed as he got out of the car. It was the second time this week that he had to pick up Remus at the police station, which wasn’t all that impressive since his record so far had been four. But Janus had had a long day at the firm today and he really just wanted to chill with his boyfriend at home. Was that too much to ask?

Apparently.

He walked into the station, greeting the officers that knew him way too well at that point. He didn’t need to ask any questions either since Remus had told him which officer was in charge of his case and he could already see Patton across the room, sitting at his desk.

“Good evening, Officer Heart,” he greeted as he came to a stop next to him. Patton looked up at him in surprise for a moment before a big smile appeared on his face.

“Hi Janus! You don’t need to be so formal, just Patton’s fine.”

“I beg to differ since this is not a casual get together but me picking up my boyfriend from your station. Again.”

“At this point we might as well call it casual, since it happens so much.”

“Don’t remind me,” Janus said, sighing again. Patton watched him with an empathetic look in his eyes.

“I’m sorry we had to call you over. Especially since I heard it’s your anniversary today.”

“It is. And you shouldn’t apologize for his idiocy. What did he do this time anyway?”

“Well,” Patton started while standing up, motioning Janus to follow him further into the station, probably to where Remus was, “he was caught trying to hack into the computer system of Il Bel Fiore downtown.”

Janus groaned, massaging his temples to try and ward of his oncoming headache. “And why did he try to hack into an Italian restaurant?”

“Why don’t you ask him?” Patton offered, coming to a stop next to an, sadly, all too familiar door of one of the interrogation rooms of the station. He unlocked it and motioned for Janus to enter. “I’ll give you five minutes.”

“Thank you, Patton,” Janus said tiredly before entering the room.

Remus sat at the table, looking bored out of his mind though he immediately perked up when he saw Janus. He waves with the hand not currently cuffed to the table.

“J-anus! Love of my life! Come to rescue me from being crushed by the system!”

Janus was very tempted to just turn around and leave him there. Instead, he took a seat.

“Explain to me why you thought it necessary to get arrested on our anniversary?”

“I didn’t plan to get arrested. I don’t know how that guy managed to catch me, I had a fool proof plan, I swear!”

“Fool proof, indeed. Worked out wonderfully for you, didn’t it?”

Now Remus had the decency to look at least a bit ashamed of himself.

“I’m sorry, Janny. I really didn’t think he’d get back so fast.”

“What were you even trying to do?”

“How much did Pattycake tell you?”

“That you tried to hack into Il Bel Fiore. But not why.”

“I wanted to get us a reservation. You always wanted to go there and I wanted to do something for our anniversary. I tried to get one the normal way but they didn’t have any vacancy for months! So ridiculous. And now we won’t be able to go at all since the owner said he wouldn’t press charges if I never come back there…”

Janus stared him down and Remus sheepishly avoided his eyes.

“You are unbelievable,” Janus groaned eventually. “I don’t care at what restaurant we eat! Yes, I want to go there sometimes but not to that extent!” He buried his head in his hands. He was so exhausted. “I just wanted a nice evening with you today. In our home. With wine and movies and nothing else. But you just had to get arrested for such a stupid, unnecessary thing!”

“I just wanted it to be perfect,” Remus mumbled.

“Wanted what to be perfect?” Janus raised his head to look at his boyfriend with the most exasperated expression he could muster. To his surprise, Remus grinned.

“This.”

He then proceeded to climb onto the table to kneel on it and pulled out something from his jeans pocket.

A ring.

“Janus, will you marry me?”

Janus gaped at him.

“Are you kidding me?”

“Nope.”

“You are unbelievable,” Janus repeated. “You are literally handcuffed to a table after being arrested and this is the moment you decide to propose?!”

“Yep.”

“Unbelievable. You are such an idiot. Why am I dating you? I must’ve lost my mind.”

“Not an answer to my question.”

“I hate you.”

“I don’t believe that.”

“You are crazy.”

“I know.”

“You are ridiculous.”

“I know.”

“Why would I ever say yes in this situation?!”

“’Cause you love me and this is totally on brand for me.”

Janus didn’t have a retort for that. He sighed again.

“Might as well, at this point.” He held out his hand so that Remus could slide the ring onto his finger. His now fiancé grinned as he did so before pulling him in for a kiss.

“You are the most idiotic person I have ever met,” Janus commented after they broke apart though he made no move to separate himself from Remus otherwise. Remus giggled instead of answering and pulled him in again.

A knock on the door a minute later broke them apart again and Patton peaked his head in.

“Are you two done?”

“Yeah, thanks, Pat,” Remus grinned as he climbed down the table.

“Wonderful! I hope I can congratulate then?”

“You knew?!” Janus gaped.

“Sure! The owner didn’t press any charges so there wasn’t an actual reason for Remus to be detained anymore. But he asked me for help with proposing and we had a slow day, so the room was open.”

Janus slowly turned back around to his fiancé.

“You were handcuffed while proposing to me by choice?”

“Yeah! Gave it some flair, didn’t it?”

“You are unbelievable. I regret falling in love with you.”

“Aw, I love you too, Janny!”
