I stopped at a Barnes and Noble on my way home after seeing "Dear White People" with brainstatic. It was very good btw. I had had twenty ounces of coffee and really needed to pee. After, I went perusing because I always feel awkward going into a store and using its bathrooms without buying anything.

So, anyway, I ended up in the Judaic section (SHOCKER) and found that it only took up one column and about five shelves; one entirely of books about Kabbalah... I also found Shlomo Sand's "Invention of the Jewish People," which I really wanted to throw on the ground. Eastern Religions (yup, all of them) took up only about six shelves, and Islam took up about three.

Then I looked to my left. There was no "Christian" section in Barnes & Noble. There were Christian SUBSECTIONS. There was Christian Fiction. There was the Bible section (which was only different versions of the New Testament). Christian Self Help, Christian Spirituality.... Other, I dunno, stuff. They took up an entire wall and a half. More than ten columns. Christian Fiction (what the hell is that anyway?) took up three complete columns itself.

I just... I understand supply and demand, and obviously with the advent of amazon, we can get books about Judaism and Jewish History and so on, but how can anyone look at this and think "THERE'S A WAR ON CHRISTIANITY IN THIS COUNTRY." I mean, without employing some tricky mental gymnastics.
