Now that spring has sprung, I'm going to talk about some of my favourite perfumes that smell like summer storms, spring rain, warm cloudy days and rough shores.
If you want pure rain, fresh and ozonic notes without overwhelming anyone or pouring yourself everywhere: Concrete lightning by ds and durga. That's basically it, not much to say about it. Plain but functional.
Concrete Rain by allsaints. It IS the perfume but sadly, it's no longer available. Smells like humidity, the warm density of summer rain with a strong white flower presence that takes you to a dewdropped green valley filled with dense flowers in the middle of a warm storm. It accentuates your depth, like you just got out of a woody lake. Like you're a fish out of a pond. Addictive and a mystery that feels right. A force of nature. A dark cloud about to break. And we always say yes to unisex.
HMCMPUO by EDO and Fathom V by beaufort london. My personal favourites. Stronger, deeper, darker, dirtier and earthier. The scent of petrichor hits without permission. Then, you're drowned in a pool of wet earth, grass, flowers and rocks. You're taken to the middle of a forrest after heavy rain. It tells you a story, like you're being hunted by some dark entity or engulfed by it. Sudden flashes of warm wet skin, then again full petrichor, then flowers, mist, drops...it really feels like you and your alterego are going through something together for the first time in a while. It is a bit weird, some say it's too deep and raw, others do like it. Personally, I am addicted. If you smell like this chances are that I'll follow the scent blindly, like following a walking dead body that just got out of its wet grave. And both unisex, yay.
A drop d'issey by issey miyake. This one is for the women who love to be sensual, fresh and sophisticatedly clean without losing that rainlike spark. Perfect if you love soft, subtle scents that still have this powdery (and a bit salty) touch to enhance your skin. It is beautiful, homogeneous, round, floral, warm and rainy. Like a turquoise wave on a leafy shore on a cloudy summer day. I'd love to smell like this, honestly. It has delicacy yet a hidden but perceived strength. Like the calm sea, I guess— it might be steady, but it's still the sea.
I'm about to start my kenzo podcast, and I'm not sorry about it.
L'eau pure by Kenzo for the guys (although I've used it too and smells really nice). This could be the masculine version of the previous one. Want to smell clean, fresh, sparkly and warmly addictive waterily speaking without taking up too much space yet having a presence? Here it is. This is for the sunny guys, the slightly shy yet friendly ones. The uncomplicated type. Just so you know: lavender does wonders on men's skin, just like cocoa or sandalwood, and this one has two of the three, so...
EDT kenzo homme. For those cloudier, deeper, more introverted and mysterious. It smell like a wavy, cloudy day mixed with woody and musky skin. You'll smell watery and tasty, and both are needed now that our blood is rushing and excited.
Flower Ikebana indigo by kenzo. Wet violets mixed with ink and vanilla. I really love the depth and meaning this perfume has, as a poetess, as a perfume addict, as a lover— as everything. It says for women only, but I do believe it does wonders on men as well.
And I'm not writing more kenzo because I don't want to be repetitive. But there're more fresh, salty and watery ones that'd definitely elevate your skin.
Squid by zoologist. For the rough guys. If you need and love a strong and unusual scent that truly does make a statement, it'd be this one. You'll smell rough, salty, fresh and kinda nasty. Like dried algae on the shore mixed with some ink that represents the squid, making it darker but not deeper. I love it. It's like carrying the not so romaticized parts of the sea with you and that says a lot about who you are and what you want to say.
For something less raw yet still rough, deep and stormy: Oceanoir by coreterno. On the other hand, if you want a deeper, darker but romanticized version: Black Sea by lorenzo pazzaglia. You'll become very fuckable to the girls who love strong salty yet coherent scents.
A personal one, and it does not smell like rain but like something very present during these days: Moon Child by Nose republic. Not like she wore this perfume whatsoever yet...God, it smells and sounds like her. Like moon dust: cold, metallic, galactic, then Earthy floral, fresh and citrus notes that hit with sudden warmth. It feels like a dance of holographic notes.
It is unisex, which suits her even more. And it really tells a story— an odd one. One only a moonchild could tell.
These days, the moon feels more visible, more perceptible. If you're a moonlover and love flowers, this could be your perfect spring scent.
