it’s about them getting older and zuko being stuck in the fire nation in a job he hates and sokka traveling around helping and doing as much as he can and they’re both so scared of losing each other that their relationship starts to crack and splinter until they’re sure there’s no way to get back to where they were and so they get divorced but then as time goes on and they catch glimpses of each other every so often they wonder if there was a world in which they could have worked out and maybe if they had tried a little harder they could have rekindled things between them and so they try and they have a little bit of time together where things are even better than when they were young and optimistic and so sure their dreams would become reality but then the red lotus happens and zuko is left haunted by all those years that they could have been together if they’d just tried a little harder and he’s a firebender so he’s supposed to run hot but he swears he hasn’t been warm since sokka went chasing after the red lotus and didn’t come back
