My top 10 favorite We Got Married couples.
I first watched We Got Married when I was starting to get really into EXO and found the cut of their special appearance there. I thought it was a weird concept. I kind of forgot about it until I found out CNBLUE’s Yonghwa did that show and since I had just watched a drama where he stars in I got curious and the next week I basically dedicated it to watch all his episodes. I loved it and ended up watching many couples more after that until eventually it became part of my routine on saturdays (that’s when the subbed version is uploaded). A few weeks ago a friend asked me what I was doing and when I told him about We Got Married it was hard for me to fully explain it. For those of you who are not familiar with the show: it’s a korean variety where they pair up two celebrities from idols to actors and comedians, and they basically play to be a married couple. They don’t really date but the show is not scripted either. The activities and outfits are planed by the staff but that’s about it.
Yesterday I found out Crown J and In Young were paired together once again as a virtual couple in JTBC’s show The Greatest Love. I couldn’t help but to watch all eight episodes they’ve aired so far. While watching it I definitely was remembered how they were one of the best couples in We Got Married history and kind of made the show because they were the first couple that was really popular in 2008. It was in that moment that I decided to figure out where they are in my top 10 and here are the results!
Honorable Mention: Candy Couple. So this is the only couple that’s currently airing in my list. They’re actors Gong Myung and Hye Sung. There’s only four episodes aired but the chemestry between these two is golden! Also Hye Sung seems to have a crush on him which turns out a funny thing to watch because of her bright personality. I have great hope for this couple so if you have a chance check them out!
10. 33 couple. I was going back and forth between this couple, and Jin Won and Go Jun Hee as my number 10 but at the end the magic of the first few episodes of Madtown’s Jota and model Jin Kyung put them over the edge. This couple aired on 2016. If anything the problem with this couple is that they get along too well so at one point the episodes started to feel a bit repetitive.
9. Taemin & Naeun. The first couple I checked out. They’re both cute and Taemin’s awkward but sweet attitude towards Naeun was really nice to watch. When it comes to WGM couples I do tend to stay away from the couples that are too sweet but these two are the exception.
8. Key & Ari. They’re the only couple from the global edition that made the list. The rest of them feels like they never quite got over the language barrier but since Key is pretty good with japanese. Despite the age difference and that their likes and dislikes were far from similar they managed to build a really cute relationship that’s like fresh air.
7. 2young. Their first meeting is probably the most awkward in WGM. 2PM’s Wooyoung and actress Seyong had a lot of misunderstandings because of their personalities and it was really highlirious to watch. I always think their time together should have been longer because when they ended it felt like they were just starting to truely get each other.
6. Khuntoria. They were a curious case. A chinese member of F(x), Victoria and a tailandese member of 2PM, Nickhun became a couple in one of the most entertaining ways and since she wasn’t good with english they comunicated with korean. They lasted for 64 episodes!! Victoria’s bright aegyo personality and Nickhun’s manners combined with his obsession to move Victoria to tears was quite a ride!
5. SongRim. Their skinship specially on the first few episodes made them look like an actual couple. They were both playful and the way he looked at her was everything.
4. CrownJ & In Young. The original couple. The way they fought was outrageous and the first time I checked them out I almost stopped watching because I felt it was too much and In Young kept doing things that even I as a girl don’t like when women do that in a relationship. They sometimes treated their time together like a war that one of them should win and it was so funny. Also it was not all screaming, they also shared some pretty sweet moments. After 8 years they came back in The Greatest Love and sometimes they’re exactly like they were all those years ago but they’ve definitely matured so it’s interesting to watch.
3. Adam. 2AM’s Jokwon and Brown Eyed Girls’ Gain were an odd pair in many ways but in other ways they complimented each other. Their fights at the beginning are highlirious and Jokwon’s nagging is awesome. They were also one of the couples that lasted the most with 59 episodes and in my opinion if they would’ve last longer it would’ve still been entertaining. I almost choked up when I saw their ending. They were the first couple that released a single as part of their WGM challenges which ended up being quite successful.
2. YongSeo. For a long while they were my favorite couple by a long shot. They were the odd couple but they had a deep conection and about half of their episodes were really awkward especially because of Seohyun. They had a really good 51 episodes and it still upsets me that when they finally seemed comfortable with each other it was time for the last episode.
1. Bbyu. Red Velvet’s Joy and BTOB’s Sungjae are my favorite couple of all time. Their first meeting was really cute and they had several moments taken straight out of a drama specifically when they had their first eye contact. It was unreal. Even now when I feel like I hate men I watch that first episode to warm my heart. It has become like a therapy. At the beginning Sungjae was clearly awkward and he had occasions when it felt like he said things for the camera or maybe stuff he thought it was the right thing to say. He started to become more himself in episode 7 but in episode 11 it was when I think he really started to feel completely at ease and that’s when every episode seemed to be outreageously funny. Joy on the other hand seemed to treat the experience like she was doing things that she would like to do with his potential boyfriend but eventually you could see it was less about that and more about having fun with Sungjae. They had great chemestry and they showed it in the last few episodes. It always felt like what they aired was only a small porcentage of all the fun things they did. Sungjae’s personality had a lot to do with that. I’ll always resent MBC though because of the way they edited their las episodes at least they were kind enough to upload extended versions for youtube. I think they wanted to present the ending like this grand show but ended up being so emotional. I have to confess I even teared up. I understand that they probably ended their journey because they both were too busy and well it also is the name of the game but it really left me craving for more.
