Things I would do if I were staging Sweeney Todd
Focus heavily on silhoutettes shining through curtains/changing screens to emphasize how Lucy and Johanna being flattened and idealized by misogyny represents the overlap in Todd and Turpin's worldviews. Probably have young Lucy emerge from behind a backlit curtain when she goes to the masked ball in Poor Things.
Have audience volunteers come up to pretend to get shaved during The Contest. With Lovett and Toby standing by, respectively, to hand them a complimentary cloth to wipe any remaining shaving cream off their faces afterwards.
Have Lovett wear a string of pearls in Act II as a reference to the original story, and also because she's trying to superficially appeal to Todd. Lucy wears the same pearls in the flashback. And then when Lovett sings "I LOVE YOU" in the final sequence she rips the pearls off her neck and they go flying everywhere, these little hardened beads of innocence, like baby teeth spilling over Lucy's corpse, like her husband's tears, and it's so melodramatic--
