And I wonder why people think I have ADHD...
I feel like I might accomplish a bit more in life, and be a bit less scattered, if I would do something as simple as sticking to reading one book at a time, from beginning to end.
I currently have 4 active reads.
There's whatever installment of The Dresden Files I'm currently listening to at work (thank goodness this series doesn't require any form of concentration whatsoever yet is still somehow cringe-worthily bad...seriously, how do people hero-worship this cheesy bullshit?). Bless you, James Marsters. Your beautiful voice is the only thing making this series tolerable for me. And sometimes, it's still just barely. Can we just get you and Tom Hiddleston to narrate All the Audiobooks? That would be lovely.
There's The Blinding Knife by Brent Weeks, which I really want to sit down and devour (well, the second half anyway...I've already devoured the first), but I really don't because Weeks has a way of fucking over his characters and I don't want to be stuck with those kinds of feels for over a year until the next installment is released. The Black Prism messed with my head badly enough and I am still trying to figure out which brother I want to annihilate the other, kthnksbai. I would like to thank TBP for fucking with my head--and continuing to do so--in more ways than a book that's not even really that well-written should be able to do.
There's Blood Lance by Jeri Westerson, which is a historical fiction book (or as the author calls it, "Medieval Noir"), which I am trying to read but can't because NaNo.
There's The Last Page by Anthony Huso, which I picked up because the library hadn't sent me Blood Lance yet and I couldn't bring myself to tackle the Weeks novel just yet. And I didn't expect to think much of it, and I'm not sure I do, but yet I don't want to abandon it and keep crawling back to it even though I should be reading other things.
And then there's The Fractal Prince by Hannu Rajaniemi, which is the One Book I have been waiting for all year, and which is due out near the end of the month. I need to clear my plate of the Weeks and the Westerson and the Huso so I can just sit back and enjoy my precious (and rant and bitch and get the worst god-awful headache every other page because OMG I CANNOT STAND/COMPREHEND POST-HUMAN SCI-FI or hardcore sci-fi in general and yet this is somehow my one Must Read of the year what is wrong with me!?).
So, yeah, I need to pick a book and stick with it and finish it. Then repeat. And then maybe I'd be able to keep up with things like plot and characters and important details much better than I am now.
