The Gunfighter 1950
Actor Anthony Ross was born February 23, 1909. An accomplished stage actor, Ross was the first actor to portray Detective Danny Clover in Broadway is My Beat. Ross starred as the sleuth during the program's initial New York-based run from February to May 1949. Ross passed away only a few years later following a stage performance on October 26, 1955. Before he died, he had another crime-solving stint, this time on television, as Detective Richard Hale in The Telltale Clue.
In honor of Anthony Ross' birthday, here he is as Danny Clover in the earliest surviving broadcast of Broadway is My Beat. For more old time radio detectives, click here to subscribe to the "Down These Mean Streets" podcast in iTunes.
