Does anyone else get the feeling the show isn't going to make Lyra and Will canon? I'm not a huge fan of their romantic relationship anyway, but the pointing out that Will is close to being endangered by the spectres, the age gap, to me it kinda suggests that it's not going to become canon. Maybe I'll be wrong but especially this season there has been specific mentions of Will's age that to me kinda make it seem like they won't go through with it. Only time will tell and I won't be too pressed either way by I'm interested to see how it plays out

pullman's omniscient narrator is a very good choice in many aspects of his dark materials. using it to develop the romance is not one of them. it made the emotional development feel detached because it wasn’t brought up until it had to be instead of weaving it in through how will and lyra feel and react to each other organically

remember when people got pissy because i said framing the biblical fall as a romantic/sexual awakening tied with loss of innocence was stupid as hell and instead it should have been about what genesis actually says which is that human beings, after eating from the tree of knowledge, were able to discern between right and wrong. yeah that. i still stand by that and i think the ending of his dark materials would have been so much more impactful, and hit better as a coming of age story, if the focus was taken off the romance between will and lyra and instead actually talked about growing up. not just falling in love. because believe it or not falling in love =/= growing up. fundamentally that is where the amber spyglass misses the mark, not to mention it brushes aside every other theme and symbolism in the trilogy to make it all about the falling in love. even the settling of the dæmons is about the romantic love between will and lyra instead about them maturing after their literally life-changing journey

when i say panjava is insta-love i mean it literally. i mean it in the way that the madly falling in love happened like flipping a switch. that all the work to build up for it relies Heavily on "boy and girl are alone together so there's got to be ✨romance✨". it wasn't one of those instances of you look at the person and suddenly you realise you've been in love with them this whole time like you see in well done friends to lovers dynamics. no, this was the omniscient narrator telling us the kids had romantic feelings for each other now because it's what the plot needs

i want it known that whenever i use panjava (derogatory) i am referring to the books. when i talk about panjava (complimentary) i mean tv show panjava. they are two different beasts in my head

reread the pasage of the amber spyglass where will and lyra fall in love and kiss and actually felt nausea 💀
