Okay now I’m curious. What are your NoTPs?

Defining NOTP as something I see frequently enough or that is popular enough to be frequent, as opposed to some weird fringe pairing only a few quiet people on ao3 ship or whatever: And it has to evince a visceral or knee-jerk reaction from me.

The whole “If you ship one of my NOTPs - have a nice day. Just - not in front of me. “ rule, it’s not meant to require anything of anyone, more a general expression of - ‘I don’t like my NOTPs, but you can like them, and I’ll just do my thing elsewhere.’ Just don’t shove them in my face sort of thing. I do follow some people who ship ships I dislike, and just use blacklisting and the like to avoid those posts, where practical. And the rest of the time I put up with it.

Had Xander been Alexandria "Xandra" Harris, but did all exactly the same things, this fandom would love her, and Buffy/Xandra would be absurdly popular.

And frankly, much as it annoys me, Spandra (that is, Spike and Xandra) would probably be still just as popular, more or less, lbf.

Please spill the tea on Spander and why the people who ship it annoy you. Right there with you. I’d also love to hear your opinion of Spangel

Actually, I didn’t say Spander shippers annoy me - mostly because I am good at avoiding most of them @luscious2 being the only one I follow that talks about it much at all, and I can avoid her pro-Spander posts pretty well.

Rather, what I don’t like about Spander is everything that I don’t like about Spuffy - that it comes from nowhere, that their enemies dynamic has nothing resembling anything I’d read as shippy, that the deeply intense and personal loathing the human has for the vampire’s very being is far too much for me to work with, and that it just makes no sense.

Add to that how prolific the ship is in fanfic, (whereas at least Spuffy got many canon nods and was then a thing in the comics, for all that it made no sense) and the fact that, just as a matter of aesthetic, I’m not really interested in M/M, and Spander is everything I dislike about Spuffy ramped up to 11.

Spangel?

Spangel is just…

Weird.

I like a good snarky enemies/rivals to lovers ship, but I don’t see that potential with them. Now, to be fair, it could be because I don’t see most M/M ships, to one degree or another, which is probably because, aesthetically, I’m not into them (though I so ship some and see several more), but there’s nothing in Spike and Angel’s dynamic that I see as sexual or romantic - even Angelus kissing Spike on the forehead that one time seemed far more about asserting control and mocking and emasculating Spike.

I don’t see them working as a couple, either. They’re just not compatible.

But at least it’s not super-over-the-top-popular

Straight.2: otp Spike x Drusilla is the closest thing to an otp for Spike, apart from Spike x Better writing3: brotp Spike and Fred had a good brotp (that I partially ship) as did Dawn and Spike (that I don’t)4: notp Spike x Xander is probably the most NOTPish of the Spike ships I don’t like, at least for the moment. Sometimes it’s others.5: first headcanon that pops into my head6: favorite line from this character 

“You won. All right? You came in and you killed them and you took their land. That's what conquering nations do. It's what caesar did, and he's not going around saying, "I came, I conquered, I felt really bad about it." The history of the world isn't people making friends. You had better weapons, and you massacred them. End of story.”7: one way in which I relate to this character 

Uhm... snarky and a jackass? 8: thing that gives me second hand embarrassment about this character

In all honesty?

Seriously? Two people can just utterly despise each other without secretly wanting to fuck. I like a good hateship or at least antagonismship from time to time, but Spander? Wtf? There’s nothing to ship there, and I just... don’t get it.

Who are some of your NOTPs from BtVS and ATS? I have a feeling we both have Xillow high on that list lol

Spuffy, Fresley, Spander, Spangel (I swear, its not an issue with Spike), Xillow, Xander x Dawn, Buffy/Giles… I’d say those are the only ones that are NOTPs for me. I mean, there are other pairings I don’t like, but they aren’t ‘nuke it from orbit evil must die’ level of dislike, the way those are (to a degree. Ish. Sorta. Kinda. It’s complicated.)

willow, tara, and xander!

Willow Rosenberg

Sexuality Headcanon: I hate this question for Willow. Because people are really, really touchy about the ‘is she gay/bi’ debate, and I see both sides as having strong points. All I’ll say is that she loved Oz, she loved Tara and human sexuality is really complicated.Gender Headcanon: Cisgender. I don’t see any reason to believe that she’s anything else.A ship I have with said character: Tara, OzA BROTP I have with said character: Amy Madison, Buffy, XanderA NOTP I have with said character: Xander, I very much don’t ship this. I’ve read a few tolerable Xander/Willow fics, so its not a NOTP that instantly makes me recoil from a fic, but it is a NOTP. Especially since Xillow broke up Xandelia.A random headcanon: Willow didn’t like her hair color when she was a kid (7-8) - she tried to dye it blonde a few times, to disastrous results (since her attempts were about as sophisticated as putting yellow paint in her hair, or similar)General Opinion over said character: She’s got an issue with meddling - she does it way too much. Willow is never one to leave stuff well enough alone. When this makes things worse, she usually meddles more to fix it. This sometimes makes things worse. Willow really needs to learn to not meddle.

Tara Maclay

Sexuality Headcanon: Gay, Gay as fuck, gayer than gay. Gender Headcanon: Cisgender. Again, I see nothing that suggests anything else.A ship I have with said character: Willow, FaithA BROTP I have with said character: Amy Madison (under the right circumstances), Buffy, XanderA NOTP I have with said character: Well, there’s this strangely popular Xander/Tara ship among the hardcore Xander-stans. Even if you were gonna have Tara be into a guy, Xander seems very much not the right type.A random headcanon: Tara is paying for college with money her mother managed to hide from her husband (some of which was stolen discreetly from said husband)General Opinion over said character: She’s an amazing character and a an amazing person. She’s not perfect and I wish people wouldn’t use her as a prop. Which some people do.

Sexuality Headcanon: StraightGender Headcanon: CisgenderA ship I have with said character: Cordelia Chase. I am Xandelia forever!A BROTP I have with said character: Willow, BuffyA NOTP I have with said character: Spike, Willow. No offense to Spander-shippers, but I very much despise it. They can ship it all they want though, of course.A random headcanon: The original roadtrip was really Jesse’s idea, and Xander took it up to honor his memory.General Opinion over said character: He’s far from perfect, but he’s a good man, a hero and far from 'the worst’ or whatever the Xander Haters like to say.
