Hi, sorry to bother you, I read your Tags on the beyond scene where spock gets rescued and bones is there thinking he's done for. And yeah it's funny, but the implication! Like if they were actually too late in catching bones! Or even if he got hurt really bad! Damn I think about it every time I see this gifs and whoa it gets me every time! And it made me so happy I am not the only one! Cause it is funny scene. But only in hindsight when everybody is safe and accounted for. Sorry for the rant ❤️

Like, we as Spones fandom, get crazy excited over that conversation they have before this (”I thought my respect for you was clear” and the “and our conversations over the years” and “you don’t have to say it, Spock”) but it’s because it’s a dire, life or death (in their eyes) moment, that they’re having it in the first place. They’re surrounded by the ships that took down the Enterprise, which they just barely escaped from with their lives (with Spock having a VERY serious injury that needs attending to!), and they think “this is it, we’re either gonna die or we’re going to get captured by people who tried to kill us on the ship” to the point that they put themselves back to back.
And yes, it’s obvious to us they’re gonna make it out alive (because if someone major died, the story would change immensely) and yes, a moment of levity is needed after all that suspense and drama (also makes it funnier because of the build-up of suspense and drama).
Honestly, there’s probably not enough what-if fic about this scene (probably because it’s too angsty af lmao) because what if Spock wasn’t transported to where the Enterprise crew was? What if Bones had been injured/hurt badly or even killed/dying when they transported him? Or what if they were too late?! It’s a lot to think about!
When I was watching it in the theatre for the first time, I was thinking “oh, shit!” and “oh no, Bones!!!” but then two seconds later he gets transported. And I, and the rest of the audience knew, he was gonna be transported after Spock, but it’s not like Bones did! Or maybe he held hope for it (hence his quip there) but can you imagine him having hope and then it doesn’t come or it comes too late?
And yeah, it’s definitely one of those “funny after the fact and we’re safe and sound and we’re alive” moments. XD
But even knowing he’s gonna be alright, I still think these thoughts anyway, so I’m glad too someone else feels the same. It’s a moment I think of from time to time, mostly when this moment pops up on my dash lol
