oops here comes Drama, uncut because I'm on mobile something that's frustrating to me about the whole pewdiepie thing is how so many people are acting like it's just as bad to be called antisemitic as it is to act antisemitic. here's the thing: I like pewdiepie. I think overall he's not a bad guy. however I also don't think he's really grasping why the nasty streak of antisemitic jokes have upset so many people, hence his short canned apology in the middle of a long video about why the media is The Enemy. the media in general is a shitshow. I like that he's called out how much they like to try and demonize him for making money by playing games. but I wish that would've been a separate video from his addressing the antisemitic shit because watching that video mostly gives me a "Okay I may have goofed but I'm the REAL victim here" kind of vibe. and that sucks. I know he's capable of growing as a person and becoming better and we do owe him that chance... but he owes it to us to actually make a fucking effort. he said in a post on his tumblr that he 'doesn't support hate groups' and that he 'expects his followers to know the jokes are just jokes' but that's a total copout and I'm sure he's smart enough to know that. an audience of fourty million people, and he doesn't think a good portion of them will see antisemitic behavior and follow the leader because it's cool and edgy? especially in this political climate, when antisemitic hate crimes are on the rise? hey pewds, is it nice living in a fairytale? how's the rent? I guess what I'm saying is that while I don't think people need to be calling for pewds' head or anything, I do think the consequences he got for his actions were warranted. and I'd like to see him improve and maybe give a real apology. and a big thing I want to be taken away from this post is that I can already see mark's words about respect from today being taken and used as a silencing tactic, not just for this situation but for the present day's atmosphere in general and that scares me. people are pretending that bigoted opinions are just as respectable as opinions about pineapple on pizza and calling for us to 'respect differing beliefs'. that's what's bothering me most about this whole thing, I guess. 'shame on you for not respecting this person's opinion that you should die in a fire just be quiet hate only breeds hate' etc etc no. I will not be quiet. sorry if that's inconvenient for anybody.
