qlso catherines backstory would involve her being a fellow GNR reporter (but like the farming/agricultural/science vs 3dog being more pop jock) and then the enclave kidnaps her (1st siege on Nova Radium Galactic per bos reckoning, 1st siege capital waste dialect) which was when she met james. and then james fell in love with her and betrayed the enclave to get his kid in vault 101. so people Knew catherine in the wasteland. lends more goodwill to the lone wanderer than Shithead James

other fallout 3 if it were good notes:

rivet city is connected with the enclave kind of like the GNR is the BoS, and you complete the museum of history quest + discover an 'enclave pipboy' key item then you can get a vulpes inculta-style encounter with colonel autumn where he tasks you with a lore/fetch quest to find old enclave files

along with the enclave v. BoS conflict theres an actually fleshed out conflict between paradise falls and 'the metro' (underground railroad in the dc subway tunnels) (this way the subway doesnt suck ass) (i already liked the subways)

again the super mutants are now explicitly a tool of the enclave--vault 87 failed when the original batch of supermutants organized a rebellion against the scientists & eventually died of old age, but the enclave took it over and started FEVing people again (hence why 3dog is talking about them like theyre new)

any supermutants that still attack you if you join the enclave are just dickheads. so the lore is as consistent as ever.

you can tell your shithead dad that he almost got you killed when he left the vault. if we lived in a world where people could have fun then id also put in a christianity perk and atheism perk but we all know how that goes. but those perks would basically just be cherchez le femme for religion, except for the rivet city date rape quest

the rivet city date rape quest also doesnt give you good karma for getting the guy date raped. in fact it gives you evil karma. you get good karma for either setting the girl up with someone else or convincing her to give up on him, and bad karma if you get the guy to scream at her

anyways the christian perk also lets you comment on all the christian names in the game. and call the treeminders pagans.

speaking of the treeminders theyre the anti-BoS they do a human sacrifice with protectrons when you first meet them

if you complete the mesmotron quest you can join the raiders as a faction--but if you do you wont be able to take any quests from megaton or the metro and also moira's prices will rise. theres also a powder ganger-style quest with springdale raiders, except you learn that stockholm had killed a raider unprovoked a few days previous, so its a little more complicated

i dont want to worldbuild the raiders as a faction. but i will. theyre neoconfederates but ayn rand libertarians, so you can buy your way out of slavery. but slaves cant earn money + any caps they find bhelong to their owner.

if you join them you get a hat called the fountainhead that gives you a barter bonus

speaking fo factions if you do the enclave quest you become the president

there is also a children of atom/underworld quest (o at least if you do one you get benefits to the other) and if you complete their quests after the ending you become a ghoul canonically

if you join this faction you get a quest to free gob and bring him back to the underground.

also the gnr are more followers of the apocalypse-types now, so after the lone wanderer's canonical death they secede from the BoS

no they dont canonically die i just like that ending. you get called a dickhead if you ssend in sarah lyons, a disappointment to your parents if you send fawkes in, or if you have charon or clover and send one of them in, and a loyal patriot if you send in RL-3

i like the idea of having your dad do the end slides narration but the redditors would riot. actually i think catherine should do them but redditors would carbomb me.

every faction except the raiders will reward you for killing dukhov, but you only get the golden ending to the quest if you set cherry & fantasia up with weapons and training (available from BoS or enclave, since theyre still the main factions). you can also send RL-3 or charon to them.

herbert daring dashwood also gets a possible good ending for the reverse racism tenpenny ending wherein he can move to underworld, sponsored by argyle his ghoul manservant (roy's feral brother). afterwards the player can meet him and he comments on how excelle tthe food is. the fridge is full of strange meat, human organs, and iguana bits.

kramer develops a romantic connection with emperor wu zetian. jerry and george are overjoyed to receive an invitation to an imperial banquet, but after hearing from elaine (emperor wu's niece) about all the poisonings her aunt has commissioned, they need to find a way out. however, kramer plans to break up with the emperor at the meal, and he wants george and jerry there as buffer. elaine is enjoying spending time with her rich emperor aunt and the gifts which are lavished upon her, but the guys accuse her of being complicit in the emperor's atrocities. at the end of the banquet we learn that emperor wu had been herself planning on (nonlethally) dumping kramer and having him betrothed to elaine. exasperated with the events of the day, she takes a large bite of rice and immediately falls over dead, having been accidentally poisoned by the gang by way of shuffling plates and unnecessary antidotes.
