06. Toccara Jones

Posting magazine spreads as picture for these types of post isn’t something I usually like to do, but I made an exception of Toccara, because I think it means a lot in this particular case.

Toccara entered the show to become the very first black supermodel in the fashion industry. I’m not sure whether or not ANTM has ever discovered litteral supermodel (sorry Jade), but Toccara made history by becoming the first black plus size model to appear on a spread from Vogue Italia. It probably is one of the most inspirationnal and touching success story related to ANTM, and that’s why I felt the need to post it alongside my ranking of Toccara.

I’ve rarely seen a character as kind as Toccara on ANTM. She never took part in any of the drama, never acted in a rude or disrepectful manner, always filled the model house with positivity and good energy, and was always there to comfort her fellow contestants. I honestly think it is basically impossible to dislike this woman, she had a pure soul. If I had based this ranking on personnality, I would have given her the top spot without a second of hesitation.

As a model, Toccara proved herself to be a strong contender, and despite not being the best, definitely managed to stood out at some point. Her portfolio was a very consistent one, with some of her photos being excellent ones. She eventually made an appearance on my top 10 photos of the cycle with her Lee Jeans advert, which was a gorgeously brilliant photograph, and where her curvy body, completed by a seductive eye contact, was the star of the picture. But she shone as well in her jamaican swimsuit photograph, Niveau beauty shot and left side of the alter egos photoshoot.

In her last couple of weeks, it seemed like her confidence suddenly nosedived. I think it happened because of her realising how difficult and cruel the fashion industry would be towards a model like her (there was for example the incident of styling during the alter egos photoshoot which might be related to this confidence loss). She started to loose her fire in her picture, and was ultimately eliminated in the last photoshoot before Japan. Even if Tyra said she was outvoted, implying that itw as a judges decision, I feel like it could possibly be because of the Japan fashion market not being receptive at all to Toccara’s type of body, completely taking away from her any chances of winning. I wish the industry wasn’t as narrow minded as that, as I would have saved her over Norelle despite having the worst picture of the week.

It pains me to only set Toccara at the 6th spot, but the top 5 were all incredibly strong models, and I probably would have placed her higher in any other cycle of top model, but here I feel like this is the appropriate spot for her amongst the remaining contestants.

Toccara - This ad was right up Toccara’s alley. She looks amazing in those jeans, and her face is absolutely divine here. Totally robbed of a first call-out, in my opinion.

Ann - I was with Jay at being surprised Ann actually took a good photo. She’s gorgeous, but hasn’t been able to translate that to a photo until now. This photo shows her beauty really well.

Eva - The judges commented on how she looks afraid, but that’s actually what I love about Eva in this shot. It’s like someone stole her top, and she’s afraid because she’s spotted a pervert staring her down. It fits really well.

Yaya - Yaya is great, as always. I’m loving the arch in her back and her face looks amazing. She’s holding just a tad bit too much tension in the lips for me, though.

Nicole - It’s interesting, because Nicole is the first girl I look at in this photo...every time. However, my focus always shifts to other girls and then doesn’t come back to Nicole. It must be the hair that draws me in. She looks great, though.

Amanda - I think Amanda looks great here, but her usual photo magic is somehow missing a bit for me. She actually looks a bit uncomfortable. Her great look kind of saved her a bit.

Jennipher - Had she not pulled that dumb stunt with writing ANTM on her butt, I think the judges would have like Jennipher’s photo a lot more. She doesn’t look bad. She doesn’t look particularly amazing either, but definitely not as bad as they made it out to be.

Norelle - This is one of the photos that I think the judges heavily overrated in panel. This is the best Norelle has looked so far, but I still find that she disappears for me amidst the other girls. This is definitely a step in the right direction, though, and I hope that she continues to improve like this.

Kristi - Kristi’s photo is just kind of “blah” to me. It’s not bad, but I can’t really think of anything good to say about it either. It’s just there. I didn’t mind her elimination much, since it seemed she was on a downward spiral anyway.

Cassie - I don’t get what the judges love about this. Her face looks okay, though her face was definitely better last week, but her body is so busted. What is that pose? She’s making the jeans look horrible, and the jeans are the entire point of the shoot.

Kelle - Though she doesn’t make the jeans look bad like Cassie did, Kelle’s face totally ruined her shot, and I feel so bad for her. This might have been the moment her bad pictures became the running joke of the cycle. I think this was probably the best shot of all of them as a whole, so Kelle just had to deal with a bad picture, and then they decided to make it a thing.

I’m rewatching season 3 of Antm.

My hatred of Janice Dickinson resurfaced.

Every comment she made about Toccara was weight concerned. None of it was constructive.😒😒😒

“You know how I feel about big girls in couture!🙄” she literally said that. 😒😒

I wonder what she thinks about the modeling world now🤔🤔

07. Tocarra

Just forget all I can say about Norelle’s beauty shots: THIS is looking sad in a picture. It seems like Tocarra is not enjoying her time on set. Her eyes are lifeless, and the spider is taking all the attention from her, and from the rings. Sadly for her this was an elimination worthy photo.

I just feel the need to mention a detail that is bugging the hell out me, but everytime I look at this picture, I mistake her lip for her finger, and that’s quite disturbing, I’ve never seen anyone picking it out out there, so I wonder if I’m alone to see that (?)

06. Eva’s covergirl beauty shot 

To this day it is one of the most successful covergirl shot this show has ever known. How can you not feel connected to Eva with a smile that sincere and that beautiful ? It is absolutely perfect for the brand, and makes for a very effective ad. Eva could sell anything to anybody with that smile.

02. Eva’s T-mobile phone advert

The fact is, this picture probably isn’t at the first spot because I couldn’t find a high quality version of it, and consequently appreciate its brilliance. But I can’t deny how gorgeous and clever it is. Eva is doing justice to pretty much everything she could sell in this picture, and you could never tell she was less than 5’7 by looking at it. I also really like the warm feeling emanating due to the colours and to Eva’s seductive facial expression. It sums up all of Eva’s quality as a model.
