1.) If you had to choose one city to live in for the rest of your life (once you're there, you are permanently settled) where would it be?
Jacksonville, FL. It has the suburbia I crave but it's within decent driving distance of places like Savannah and Orlando. Plus, it's right down the road from St. Augustine, which is my favorite place ever. I could never live there but I would pour all my extra spending into that blessed tourist trap. 2.) You get to meet your musical and/or cinematic idol - what do you say to them?
Lea Michele. I'd say "thank you," a lot. Thank you for keeping your nose and your boobs and proving that you don't have to fit society's narrow standards of beauty to be beautiful or successful. Thank you for your voice and your megawatt smile. Thank you for bringing Rachel Berry to life and doing your best with a (wonderful) character that Ryan Murphy seems dead set on destroying. Also, thank you for having sexual chemistry with almost every one of your cast members - the fanfic has been fantastic.
3.) You're offered the chance to write and develop your own comic/tv show/movie/novel - what is it about? Who is your target audience? (There are NO restrictions!)
I would write the romance novels I've always wanted to read. I would write the novel that does for romance novels what "50 Shades" did for erotica - only well written instead of badly plagiarized fanfiction. My heroines would have agency and body autonomy. My heroes would not be swoon-worthy just because they act like mysterious assholes. Everyone would get some GD character development. Only villains would care about gender roles. And there would be abundant consent in all loves scenes; there would be absolutely no "your mouth says no but your body says yes" bullshit. Not all romantic relationship would be heterosexual and not all would contain just two people. And, in the end, our main characters might not find happily ever after with each other but they will always act like adults and treat each other with respect. Oh and women will have friendships with other women and there will be no slut shaming or girl hate!
Target audience: anyone who wants to read a good romance novel. Might as well go big.
4.) You're given the chance to jump into the shoes of your favorite Disney character! Who are you and do you follow your character's scripted decisions or rewrite the story?
Jasmine. Once the dust was cleared, there'd be some serious legislation being enacted. Aladdin could play sultan-consort all he wanted, so long as I was the true power behind the throne. Social reform would be slow going but, hopefully, my heirs would be smart and politically-minded enough to continue my work. And if that was a no go, then Raja, Carpet, and I would be getting the beezuses out of there to go live somewhere free and wild.
5.) Top five favorite bands! Go!
The Beatles, (Sting and) The Police, Bob Dylan, Bright Eyes, and Nirvana. Although, really, 1-5 is The Beatles and everyone else is 6-10. "Blackbird" always makes me cry and The Beatles: Love show in Vegas changed my life.
6.) You can have any type of animal in the world as a pet - what is it?
A white tiger (see #4). When I was younger, I felt like I had some sort of connection with the white tiger at the DFW zoo. It was always lying up on the viewing ledge, right up next to the glass, whenever I was there. I could just watch it for hours. Plus, who wouldn't want a TIGER as a BFF?
7.) Would you rather be stuck on a deserted island with someone who really annoys you (for seven years) or be forced to eat small worms for the rest of your life?
If the worms were going to be my ONLY food for the rest of my life, I'd go with the deserted island. I love food too much to give it up just to avoid being stuck with some asshole for seven years. However, if the worms were only suplimental, I'd go with the worms. After all, it's just protein and I would rather not maim someone after being forced to deal with their stupidity.
8.) HOW IN THE WORLD DID YOU FIND ME?
Since I rarely friend blogs first, you probably found me. If I had to guess, it was probably while I was actively updating "In Treatment." If that's the case, I promise that I will start writing again. One day. Hopefully soon. I'm awful and I'm sorry. If that's not the case, then I haven't the foggiest clue. Either way, I think you're wonderful and I wish I could meet you for coffee and hugs.
9.) You can travel back in time with the guarantee that you'll come home safe - where do you go? Who do you meet? What do you witness?
I would be a terrible companion for the Doctor because I would want to go everywhere and meet everyone and see everything and I would constantly be wandering off when he told me not to. Serioulsy, history is my love and there are too many things I would want to see/experience and too many people I would want to meet. Top three? 1.) Jesus during his "lost" years. It would be amazing to see just what shaped him into the man he became. Plus, I would be a one woman entourage and I could get all the teachings without having to deal with the (assholes) disciples. Although, I wouldn't mind zipping forward a bit and seeing just how things went down with Mary Magdalene (because I ship them and I do not apologize for that). 2.) England during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I. This woman is one of my favorite historical figures; she just...absolutely blows me away. It would be mind blowing to be a member of her court and be able to witness her in all of her glory. I'd definitely want to see her rally the troops against Spain (her speech to them is chill bump-worthy) and be there for the (had to be crazy) celebration that followed. 3.) Alexandira, Egypt during it's heyday. Nothing beats a library and Alexandria probably had the most amazing library in the history of libraries. I can't imagine all the things there would be to read and all the scholars there would be to meet. To just have a peak inside would make my life complete.
10.) What's your dream job?
See #3. While I tell everyone that I want to be a tenured history professor, I really want to be a game-changing romance novelist. If I could do anything, that would be it. Of course, I'd have to learn to finish the things that I write AND figure out how to start something that wasn't Glee fanfiction.
11.) You are now the subject of your favorite artist! Who is painting you?
Mary Cassatt. Of all the Impressionists, she has always managed to touch something in my heart. If I were to be immortalized on canvas, I'd want her to be the one to do it.
