THE PAIN HAS ARRIVED! WHOOOOO!
If you thought I went on about Gears of War before just you wait - It's time for GoW: Time to Cry edition!
It makes me so sad that as you read the Gears of War comics that are based in the Pendulum Wars, and the Aspho Fields and Anvil Gate books....you actually realize how much Adam Fenix loved his son.
Yes it got harder when Elain “disappeared” and it was just Marcus and Adam.
But when Marcus was five years old and running towards his injured dad, all Adam Fenix wanted to do was NOT be like his own stoic father. But he couldn’t do it. He physically and emotionally did not know how to lower his walls with his own damn son.
And you can tell, from some of JD’s comments in Gears of War 4, Marcus somewhat suffers the same emotional fate as Adam. The only reason if wasn’t horrible and stuffy was because JD had Anya for a mother. Both Anya and Marcus grew up under emotionally constipated parents....but they tried to rectify that for their child.
If just hurts to read about how badly Adam Fenix wanted to unconditionally love young Marcus.
"You can use one of these, I assume?" Hoffman handed Prescott a Lancer and watched him carefully. He took it two-handed and tilted the rifle to inspect it, safety catch uppermost, as if he knew what he was doing. "I was a Gear," he said. "But Lancers didn't have chainsaws in my day." Prescott rarely pulled the veteran card, which was just as well. Every one of Hoffman's generation had done their compulsory military service unless they were medically unfit. But the Chairman was one of those privileged kids who did the two-year commission so that he didn't look too much like a parasite before his dad whisked him off to groom him for the family firm, the business of politics.

Did You Know?
In all of Anvil Gate, the name "Damon" is only mentioned three times? "Baird" is used over 200 times.

"He's a very intelligent man. I'd really like him on my staff, much as he seems to enjoy killing anything that moves."
- Chairman Richard Prescott about Corporal Damon Baird; Anvil Gate, pg 344
I can do business with Hoffman. He would not - could never - lie to me. He enjoys wielding the truth too much. I think he's in love with its power to shock. And he knows that as long as he brandishes it, nobody will burden him with secrets he doesn't want to keep.
Commander Miran Trescu
