Simian Mobile Disco - Seraphim. As the first single off the recently released 'Unpatterns', this track marks the comeback of London duo James Ford and Jas Shaw. Three years on from the electronic 'Temporary Pleasure', SMD have taken a new direction with 'Unpatterns', a record that arguably manifests the best of minimal techno.
SMD cleared up the speculation revolving around the obscure video for 'Seraphim' on YouTube, commenting:
"Since people are asking - It's a series of scenes of people going over their obsessive-compulsive type behaviours... as to how that refers to our music, on our new album we've been inspired by ideas of repeated loops and patterns breaking down and decaying over time. And the process of making electronic music lends itself to obsessive-compulsive tendencies.."
The single is a great introduction to such a diverse and highly addictive album. Have a look at the video for 'Cerulean', a track that perhaps better reflects the sound of the album. Designed, directed and animated by Jack Featherstone and Will Samuel it is a aesthetically stimulating piece of video art. Imma post it up next.
'Unpatterns' by Simian Mobile Disco - released on the 14th May 2012.
