She doesn’t know what she’s doing.
Mike’s dead. Emily’s dead. Matt is dead Josh is dead Chris and Ashley are dead dead D E A D
Sam’s all she’s got left. Sam’s all she’ll ever have.
The doctors say that she’s got PTSD, that she’s going to need help to work through what happened to her on the mountain. They suggest she stay with a friend, for her safety. She moves in with Sam for her protection.
(It’s Sam who needs the protection. Not her.)
Two am brings another nightmare, another hallucination of the monster that tried to kill her. She registers the feelings of hands around her forearms, shaking her. There’s a voice, trying to talk to her, but all she hears is the roar of that monster and she panics. Jess twists out of the tight grasp, grabbing the lamp and smashing it against whoever’s holding her.
She keeps hitting, bashing, unaware of the blood splattered on her body. The lamp eventually falls from her hand, clattering to the floor, the girl pushing herself back into the corner away from the beaten body. Her body shakes with terrified sobs.
By the time she comes to her senses, it’s dawn.
