Aiden’s back, baby!
i think i snuck this into my talk as to whether or not his name is actually tern (before it was in the game stated plainly) but i never talked about it in a succinct manner and lyria lowkey reminded me about it
upon first glance. doing a quick search would yield that the name brant likely comes from the brant goose, this would fall in line with his previous name also being a sort of bird, tern. however, there is a little more nuance i think that they were going for with this name
branta is a latinized form of brandgás. brandgás is the old norse for burnt goose. thus meaning brant/brand would be burnt. this matches his forte being related to fire
we can further go onto say that brand is an old english word for "burning wood" or "torch"
given that old norse is a germanic language, then we can further go onto say that brand generally refers to burning fire
a torch is typically used to guide via fire... and brant seems to be a guiding light thanks to his resonator flames
idk it's just kinda interesting... who then is brand?
to add onto this, this name was chosen by him (or perhaps suggested or indirectly given to him) as a means to leave behind "tern's" life - or perhaps is another way to express rebirth. tern is brant. but he no longer has his parents, doesn't have the life he had before the Sail. the Troupe is his family
so then i would say if someone called him brant, or described him as being like a brant, it's likely he picked that up - and when his resonator abilities came thru it truly was him becoming brant
