▤ = falling asleep on them .
my muse’s reaction to your muse : falling asleep on them — ( status: not accepting. )
THE BAGS RUSTLE and raven has to move her foot, quick, to stop one of them from tipping over and having everything fall out and roll across the floor of the train. it would be a waste; they’d gone to the other side of the city for this, and it’s a long train ride with lots of stops. there’s only so many of raven’s old cardigans that are still wearable and the weather is rapidly melting into heat, and most of raven’s old wardrobe is more suited for english weather than a new york heat.
they’ve been out since early morning and even raven’s own feet ache, just a little, from all the walking. a whole day, she thinks, looking out the window, and there’s no regret. she tucks away the image of josephine’s lit up eyes as her impossibly small fingers brushed along all the fabrics, almost hesitantly.
if anyone knows the depth of meaning behind owning something, and having something that’s yours, after not having anything at all, it would be raven.
raven turns, just about to ask josephine if there’s anything else they forgot, but her mouth stays open in light surprise as she feels josephine’s head drop onto her shoulder. it’s obvious she’s been asleep for awhile and raven’s just not noticed it, but she’s noticing it now. notices the thin veins on josephine’s eyelids that make her seem so breakable, the dark shadows under her eyes, the light shiver that runs through her every now and again. though it’s josephine who is defenseless, it’s raven who feels vulnerable, even though josephine isn’t awake to see it. there’s a discomfort in how easily josephine drops her guard around raven. she shouldn’t —- raven isn’t someone that josephine can trust with her weaknesses.
she’s not sure what to do, partly worried that she’ll wake josephine, but raven does take her scarf – a deep, sapphire blue; a present from charles from years ago – off her lap and drapes it over josephine’s thin shoulders.
rest, she’s sure, isn’t something that josephine comes by so easily anymore.
