Why Study Meteorology
Meteorology is one of the requirements for my college major, and with good reason. I am studying Emergency Preparedness Management, and although the discipline has a lot to do with planning and policy and understanding human behavior, there’s no way to succeed without an understanding of weather, climate, and severe weather events.
I have not studied physics at all, so I am fascinated to learn more about the physical processes that happen within our atmosphere, and how the other subsystems of the planet (like the warm and cold currents in the oceans) play into our weather events. I hope to complete the class with a basic understanding of the processes that determine our day-to-day weather, regional climates, climate change, and natural atmospheric hazards. A good foundation in that should make me more able to understand the information that I learn in my emergency management classes and research that I do on my own.
